Yummy yummy yummy I got pork in my tummy
Nice looking pork shoulder there OS.
Magnificent!
OH YEAH ;D
There was much applause for the whole pork leg
Q????
I have a bone now that everything is carved off of it
I think it would be a sin to chuck it in the bin
Any ideas of what I could do with this?
Most stocks are beef and chicken
Never seen a pork stock
I wapped it up and put it in the freezer until I get some inspiration or drop it on my foot !
You could make a very happy dog with that...
I've also wondered about 'pork stock'.
Maybe use the 'stock' mixed in with vaulted vinegar and add to your next pulled pork? ???
My first thought with a smoked pork bone is beans!
They are all good. Black, red, white!
I'm with you Hawkeye!! Throw that big o'l ham bone in a pot with some beans and let it simmer on the back of the stove all day. Add some onions and whatever else you would like and make some Ham and Bean soup. Beware of open flames for a couple of days afterward.

There's one more advantage to a Bradley Smoker! No open flames.
Great ideas...
When I do my 15 bean pulled pork chili for next month's cookoff, I'm going to throw the bones in.
Do you think a dog can have pork bones
I have always shy'd away from giving them pork bones
You could make a hell of a good pea soup with that bone.

I give all of my pork shoulder bones to a friend w/ a pair of rescue beagles... He says that they go nuts for them. If this isn't safe for the dogs, someone please step up and say so! ???
(my cats would just lick the bones and bat them around the kitchen floor)

OK got it from a good source (the wife)...pork bones are just like chicken bones.
They are not a very strong bone.
They will splinter and plug up the dogs guts.....that's means surgery!
She says never, never give them chicken or pork bones ever!
Why take the chance.
I've always heard not to give a dog a bone that has had an even cook on it (ie: oven, bradley)
My dogs only get raw bones.
But you see smoked bones for sale in pet store, but I bet it is a solution smoke flavoring.
We were always told not to give them chicken or pork bones. Although my brother will break the knuckles off of the chicken bones and give those to his dog.
Thanks
That is what I thought but I was not sure if it was founded on fact or not
I think I will let that bone rest in the freezer until I feel really ambitious
I am not a big fan of pea soup although the wife is
But pea soup[ is great way to help keep warm at night under the blankets. And dutch ovens are always funny, no matter what women say ;D
Oakville I think the way to go is yellow split pea soup. I made it after I finished off my last ham and it was the best I ever made. Altho I had quite a bit of ham in it. Piker

Hahaha The other day the "wombat" bends over beside me to read a post an accidently cuts loose. She said "don't worry my farts don't stink" to which I had to say"no they don't stink, they smell like hell". So that night she is trying to get comfortable in bed when she pops off another one. So as quick as I could I give her the dutch oven and say" ok now tell me your farts don't stink". So as she's fighting me off she says "your right the do smell like hell and you can sleep on the couch tonight a##h@le". It was worth the night on the couch. ;D ;D :D :D :D
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I was always told not to give a dog a raw bone because it will splinter and choke them.
So, after reading this topic, I have decided from the collective knowledge of the entire group that
Noone really knows what they are talking about ;D ;D ;D

I use Goya 16 Bean Soup mix. They add black beans to their mix. Since I can never get the chickpeas to soften to my likeness, I take then out before soaking the beans and turn them into a powder in a processor then add the powder to the soup or chili slowly while stirring to avoid any lumps. I add it towards the end to act as a thickener.
