Just gotta love the .50 cal sniper rifle!!
Gotta REALLY love that last ammo! Holy CRAP!
KyNola
Them .50 cal are the s##t
My neighbor has a bolt action .50 and we filled a 55 gal drum with dirt went to the other side of the section, approx a mile and with plain old full metal jacket rounds we were able to go through the drum. Very impressive. Yes we had a back stop for the bullet to stop in, we dug into the hill and never found the projectile.
OU fill one with water its a lot more fun. I sight in the .50 cal muzzle loader on water filled milk jugs. You definitely know when you hit them.

I like to put red die in the water filled milk jugs, kinda cool when theres snow on the ground.
I have a .17 cal blows them apart like your .50 cal smoke stick does.
Them .17's are loads of fun. We put a bone pile out at 150 yards and shoot the crows and coyotes that come a calling.
Great video.
The following is a short story about a soldier who's father lives in Northern MN and is a regular on ARFCOM. I'm proud to be a member of Ranstad's Militia, they do so much for our troops overseas sending packages and just about everything you can think of....(Mentions of Team Members and other forums are because it was posted on ar15.com) Darn there's more to the story but I can't find the rest of it.
Recently, while deployed in Naray, Afghanistan at a very remote FOB (Forward Operating Base) with the 173rd Airborne, 1-91st Airborne Cavalry "Hatchet" Recon Platoon, TEAM Member 'SnakeaterM24' took out a Taliban target he and his spotter had been stalking from 2100 meters! That's 1.3 miles!!!
He did it in true Army sniper fashion...1 Shot - 1 Kill
with his Barrett .50 & Leupold scope.
Some of you may have read about Nick and his fellow platoon members on my "91st Cav Snipers" thread in TEAM, where a multitude of VERY generous ARFCOM members have been busy making sure these men have whatever they need to succeed in the remote mountain FOB they presently call home
(no roads, everything in & out by helo, water from a nearby stream, living in tents and fighting almost constantly).
The men of the 1-91st Recon Platoon have started to refer to us as "Ranstad's Militia" as Nick has become the man to see if anything is needed from the States, he let's us know and we always deliver.
His father is RetMAC, also a TEAM member (he was my Master at Arms Chief and we served in the Persian Gulf together in '88 'squabbling' with the Iranians) and is a VERY proud papa. Here's a link to the 1-91st Thread in Team, loaded with pics, as well as the tragedies and triumphs the Platoon has faced so far:
I should also mention that this may end up being the US Army record for kill shots in Afghanistan. The Canadians have a 2430-meter shot (took 3 shots for the kill though) Also to be commended is Nicks Spotter, SPC Simpson, who is a hell of a sniper in his own right!
ETA: More info on the shot from RetMAC:

They switched back to try and get the primary, but the bad guy stayed behind the rock after seeing the other go down.
SOOOO Nick started shooting the rock!!
Why you ask?
Because they had Apache air support in the area and the pilot could see Nick's rounds impacting the rock (keep in mind, this is at over a mile!!) - and the pilot used that to target and fire a Hellfire missile - which of course turned the rock into little pebbles, mixed with bad guy 'fertilizer' ....
Wondering if Ronnie Barrett ever envisioned his rifle being used as a targeting designator for air support...
Never underestimate the ingenuity and quick thinking of our American soldiers !!

Thats because us Canadians are so G** D**ed polite that the first two were warning shots :D :D
Lumpy
If the canadian had been in a snowstorm instead of a heatwave he surely would have 1 shot 1 killed them. :D :D :D

Did that "projectile search" with a 20mm that we shot into a black oak tree....went in about 4'AGL, came out of the tree about 10'AGL, into the dirt bank about 12' away and, even after considerable digging, was never seen again... :o
NePaS....when did you move out to sage/lava country? Have you been vacationing out here and shooting varmints w/that BB gun?!?!? ;)

when it absolutely positively has to be destroyed in one shot!!!
When i worked at USAF Plant 42 on the F-5 line i got to watch them sight in the 20mm in the nose. They had a 55 gallon can under the gun to catch the empties. This was live fire and they spent 250 rounds in like 6 seconds.

Actually that barrel is supposed to be good for 15k rounds due to it's specific hardening process....not sure the shoulder is good for that many rounds?!? :o
