Title: Newbie questions
Post by: alinds on March 02, 2010, 04:02:40 PM
I am about to purchase the digital 4 rack and had a bunch of questions.

1. What  kind of digital/wireless thermometer do people use?
2. What are puck savers/Bubba Pucks
3. How many full slabs of baby back ribs can fit into a 4 rack.
3a. Can you use hooks to get more slabs?
3b. can you add racks or is 4 the max?
5. What is Auber dual probe

Thank you in Advance.

1. What  kind of digital/wireless thermometer do people use?

Seems most here use a Maverick ET-73 or ET-7.

2. What are puck savers/Bubba Pucks

    Info here (http://www.yardandpool.com/Bubba-Pucks-Bradley-Smoker-Woodsaver-p/bubbapuck-P.htm).  Buy three.

3. How many full slabs of baby back ribs can fit into a 4 rack.

Most folks do one per rack but you could probably squeeze in a few more if you used rib racks and/or cut them in half.

3a. Can you use hooks to get more slabs?

The math works for more than four depending on where you suspend the hooks from.

3b. can you add racks or is 4 the max?

You can add additional racks upside down on top of the existing ones but you probably won't have room for ribs between them.  Usually done for "thin foods" like jerky.

5. What is Auber dual probe

Simply put, it's the latest model of a device to regulate the temperature in your smoker based on the feedback from the probes.  Since you're getting a digital which already does that to some extent, you might not need one unless you're going to smoke foods where the temperature has to be maintained within a very tight range.

W E L C O M E  to the Forum alinds!

I can get six racks of baby backs on three Bradley racks most of the time. So I would say the capacity is eight racks of ribs.

It kind of depends, sometimes the baby backs are a little large and I have to cut them to get them to fit.
