Taby was headin into town last night and when she was almost there she had a deer jump out in front of her and before she could hit the breaks another deer ran into the side of her luckily she was able to slowdown enough she didnt hit the first deer head on or it would have been really ugly. She was doin 60 MPH.
Needless to say when she called me she was freakin out, I had to calm her down. First are you all right, she said she was covered with glass. Get out of the car and walk in front, in the head lights and brush off the glass with something other than your hand. Ok. Now are you bleeding? No. Good now just sit on the hood of your car for a min and take a breath. Ok. I could hear in her voice that she was starting to calm down. Then I asked for the damage report, as she was explaining the what was messed up I could tell she was gettin back to normal.
That damn deer took out the window, mirror, flattened the hole side of the door and put one hell of a dent in the rear quarter panel.

I almost hit a deer on my way home later. Then when I got on the gravel I was comin around a corner and wouldnt you know it there stands another deer. I slammed on the binders and thump, I got one too. Damn It!
Only thing it did to my truck was mess up the licence plate holder upper.
Man, rough night. Glad everybody is okay and it's only vehicle damage.

You got that right, we can fix the car but we can never get Taby back.
Just about a foot back and the deer could have been it the car.
Cars make very poor deer rifles. Glad you guys are okay. You might want to modify one of those alien abduction helmets to cover situations like this.
Glad to hear she made it out ok! That's rough, hope the deer had insurance.
Glad everyone is ok.
Glad to hear Taby is Alright. But the bruised composure can take awhile to heal. An angel was watching out for your angel.
Wow OU!
:o
Glad your all ok.
Dang OU, glad to hear she is Ok.. I had a similar experience when I was 16.
I'm all for opening deer 'season' to be all year long...
Glad Taby and you both are Ok.
Deer can cause serious Hurt on vehicles and people.
My brother is a cop and worked in a rural area for a couple years. He shot more deer in 2 years than my father has in 78 years alive. He can't prove they work but says he never once saw a car hit a deer that had the deer whistles mounted on them. They just stick on. No electronics, wiring or anything else needed. If they work great, if not, only cost about $5 each. Not much to lose, everything to gain.

How do you get the deer to stand still long enough to stick on the whistle?
I've used them, but had closer calls with them than without.
I think when the deer here the whistles they come onto the road to see what the hell is going on!
Good to hear she is ok.
They make electric deer whistles that wire into your 12v
Need my son with his weapon to plow the road ;D
I'm glad everyone is ok.
One of my buddies retired and had just splurged on the car of his dreams - a Mercedes 500 convertible.
On his first road trip to show off the car to his relatives a deer ran out onto the highway and smacked his baby on the side. No damage to my buddy, but the deer was road kill.
About a month later after his car was repaired he took another road trip to visit other relatives and, yup! another deer got him!!
We now call him the "Deer Hunter". We also mailed him a fake letter from the SPCA with a warning that if he killed another deer they would prosecute him!
OU12;
I'm glad no one got hurt.

I believe they do work, but the problem I found is that because you have to place them on the bumper, they often get plugged up, so you have to remember to periodically clean them out. I had an electronic one that mounted on the roof, that worked great. The ones that use forced air to create the noise, need to be on the bumper, if you mount them on the roof or side view mirrors, the noise is projected too far behind the vehicle for a deer in front to hear it.
Thanks for the replies.
I have tried those whistles before but with the angle of the bumper on her car they dont get the air flow. She drives a Pontiac Sun Fire and the nose is shaped like a bullet with nothing flat to mount them on.
Taby is still a little paranoid drivin at night, always seein things moving and wantin to hit the brakes.
With this warm weather and all the snow meltin we see deer EVERY WHERE!
Nebraska is workin on some new seasons for deer huntin just to thin the heard.
You can still see hair stuck in the trim and along the back of the window.

812,
So glad to hear Taby's OK.
I couldn't find the exact type of electronic one I had, but it was very similar to the one I linked to. I've never used this model, so I don't know if it will work as good as the one I use to have. Also the one I had you could wire it directly to the battery; it came with a wire that had an in line fuse.
They have a few models to choose from.
Electronic Deer Alert (http://www.911phone.net/Alert.htm)
Thanks for the link, Habs
Got the window fixed today, $190 wasnt to bad.
Now to find a door.
If you hit a deer in the state of Texas, the state pays your deductable.
Most Insurance Company's just waved you paying deductable instead of having the State pay it.
It's happened to me twice, Once in Downtown Austin.
Glad to hear noone was hurt. Well, I'm sure the deer didn't fair too well in this meeting. Good thing it wasn't a moose and a really good thing that she was already slowing down.
Glad Taby only had some feelings hurt. Bet she remembers this incident next deer season.

While on the subject of Family, How is Daddy doing?
CRG, Thanks for askin.
Bruce is doin GREAT, back to his ornery old self again.
PT is gettin him back in shape too, he's lost weight and gettin some muscle back, cant even see the beer gut anymore.
I still cant get over seein him wearin tennis shoes though. ::)
He has even started goin back to the old tavern and hangin with the boys again.
Now that the weather is gettin nice he is actually lookin forward to goin out for his walks, he was walkin 5 miles a day before the heart attack.
The day he had his attack he did his 5 miles and when he got home he could never catch his breath, feeling light headed and noshes. Thats when Sandy said "Were going to the ER" Good thing she was watchin after the old man other wise he would have tried to wait it out and we all know were that would have taken him.
