Title: Carolina Treet help
Post by: Northern_Smoke on March 28, 2010, 04:09:19 PM
Ok, I loaded up the family and made the long, long, long, long trip from Saskatchewan to Phoenix...2500 miles to be exact. Now where can i find Carolina Treet around here? I am really hoping that i won't be leaving empty handed. The kids just had to visit grandpa and grandma so i thought this would be my chance to try what everyone is raving about. I just don't know the Mesa area well enough to know where i could possibly look or if i would even be able to find it here.

I am hoping i can find some within the next 4 days before we leave. I suppose i could pick some up in Vegas along the way.

I hate to tell you this, but I don't think you'll find it here. I've been looking for months and haven't see it in any of the normal grocery stores. I haven't checked any of the off the wall places yet.

It is a regional sauce only NC, SC parts of Georgia maybe.

Daughter lives in Nashville and she can not buy it.

Kevin, you are in Phoenix too right?

Fairly close, Apache Junction which is right next to Mesa. He probably has more access to stores than I do. There's very few out here, but Mesa is a pretty big city and if it's available, it should be in Mesa.

Well it looks like i might have to order it before the folks fly home and ask them to pack it up for me. Was really looking forward to seeing what everyone was raving about. I guess i just have to put off my taste test for a few more weeks.

Thanks for the info though ;)

I bought four bottles and had shipped to me in Canada using the USPS and Canada Post. 4 bottles with shipping came to $45. Most expensive sauce I have ever bought so it better be as good as they say. Hoping to do some brisket for Easter weekend and possibly a butt.

I just cannot justify paying that much for barbecue sauce. I did however inquire about their price to ship as well. I might be making a drive in October to Scottsdale, Arizona about the same drive as Northern Smoke. If i go this year i will look around for rubs and sauces to ship home.

It was a one shot deal for me. I was talking to the owner of a local shop which has a huge online business - http://www.chillychiles.com/ and she said to bring her in a sample. She will consider carrying it if she thinks it will sell. I'll keep my fingers crossed, it will be nice to have a Canadian distributor, especially only 10 minute drive from my house.

Thanks for all the info so far. I just decided to order some and have my folks bring it back with them when they come home for the summer in about 2 weeks. That should be enough time to get it here before they head back home.

Paddlinpaul, i sure hope you can convince your store cause it would be nice to have a Canadian distributor. I don`t mind ordering from across the border but sometimes the shipping can be a PITA and the cost involved is just too much. I would rather let someone else deal with it like a grocery store ;)

And KevinG, thanks for the offer. I will see if the kids and wife will let me get out to make new friends and try out new places :D

One of the problems in up here in Canada is that all
labels on food must be in two languages, one which
MUST be French. For this reason there are lots of
foods that are not sold in Canada, the packaging is too
costly. We have a British Specialty store down the
road from us and they print up French label to put on
some of there products that they bring in from England.
Good luck getting CT into Canada. If it happens I will
be ordering some.

Ross

Well i ordered a pile of it and it arrived today. So once i am back home, i have some cooking to do. Once i know if we like it or not, it won't be a problem getting it into canada. I will just have my folks bring large quantities when they come home every few months.

As for the french, Canada is no longer a bilingual country that boasts having 2 official languages so i am not sure why we need the french on the label.

Ohh well, i got a LARGE box to take home tomorrow and the wife already knows that we are bbq'ing and smoking meat for the next week solid :D

Update :

We made it home and the first thing i did was unpack the sauce, defrost some chicken breasts and put some spices on them. They are in the smoker as i type. Making some bacon wrapped tator tots and some chicken breasts done with the Caroline Treet....pretty excited to be home but the new sauces are adding just a little something more ;)
