I might take you up on that. Mrs RB was after me with a big stick not to cut it and I burnt the chicken!

Aaaa just peel the skin off and dive in. The skin is not good for use anyway, too much fat. The parts that aren't black look perfect. Those cakes look awesome Ron.

Any chance those are Ponchatoula strawberries?  If so, save me a piece.  I'll be down that way in the next week or so!

As a matter of fact, they are. Puree'd right into the batter and also the icing.

Folks, if you have never had a Ponchatoula strawberry from Ponchatoula LA, you have never had a real strawberry.  They are without a doubt the sweetest juiciest strawberry I have ever had.  I'm hoping that when we head down soon there may still be a few around as the season is typically pretty short I think.

Last time we were in NOLA and hit the strawberry season, we were in a very nice restaurant in the French Quarter and they had this beautiful dessert and were making sure that everyone knew what the strawberries were.  The waiter did a very nice job of recommending that dessert and describing it.  I looked at him and said "it sounds and looks delicious but would you just bring me a bowl of those strawberries with a bowl of whipped cream on the side"?  He smiled and said "my kind of guy.  Be right back!".

Ron, I am envious of that cake and Jan is about to jump through the computer monitor.  I can only imagine those strawberries pureed up in the batter.

I did a comparison with another brand they had at the store and as you said, there was none. Ponchatoula strawberries are much sweeter and less tangy.

We also made this to take to the Easter feed.

And I finally cut the cake.

Everybody there made sure they kept one eye on the cake and the pie while they nibbled on prime rib and a Honey Backed Ham ready to pounce on the pie and cake as soon as they finished the main course.

There is a whole lot of napping going on!!!

Oh man that cake looks incredible.  I'm full as a goose right now but I think I could force down a good sized slab of that cake.  The strawberry pie didn't look none too shabby either!

I used this one only I went with 1/2 frozen in syrup strawberries and the other half fresh in both the icing and the cake.
