Here is a recipe for Orange Julius's I got from Good Eats. Great for the kids on a hot day or at the next party. The tip and variation I came up with. I think. :D :D
Orange Julius
Fresh squeezed orange juice ice cubes (approx. 8 cubes)
1/4 c. fresh OJ.
Zest from 1/2 orange
1/2 c.Whole milk
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
1 Tbsp. Icing Sugar
Pour 6.5 oz. OJ into ice cube tray and freeze
Put OJ cubes (approx. 8 cubes) into blender with the rest of ingredients
and blend for 1 min.
Enjoy
Tip:
Make a few trays of juice cubes ahead of time and store in a ziplock
bag so they are ready when you are.
Variations:
Try Pureed Strawberry's frozen in cube trays and add a good squirt of
strawberry milk syrup instead of Orange.
Or add a banana for extra nutrients.
The Hell with the kids - here's my 40+ year-old recipe for Adult Orange Julius:
1 small can (6 oz) frozen OJ
1 cup milk
1 cup rum
12 ice cubes
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
Blend it to slush and serve.
Only problem is that it tastes so good that by the time you've had enough, you've had too much.
Now your talking. I'll be bellying up to that one real quick. ;D ;D
I might have to try both of those. I used to get orange julius at the mall all the time when I was a kid.
I'm goin' with KH, except for maybe increasing to 2 cups of rum. ;D
The kids version of this should be doubled as you only get 2 small glasses.
Doubled:
Fresh squeezed orange juice ice cubes (approx. 16 cubes)
1/2 c. fresh OJ.
Zest from 1 orange
1 c.Whole milk
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Tbsp. Icing Sugar
I'll try both versions. I love Orange Julius. :):):)
Darn you KH. I wanted to be the one asking where the rum was in that recipe! :D
KyNola
I do it simple. Put two cups of ice cubes and three cups of rum into a pitcher. Add the juice of one lime - hell, throw the whole thing in. Add a couple of tablespoons of sugar. And then, and then, and - what was I talking about?
I grew up making this for myself after school. I used a 6oz can of frozen concentrate, skipped the zest (zest for kids, really?) and used 1/2 cup regular cane sugar in place of the "icing sugar".
I forgot to add that it is very good. Brings back memories. I'll have to make some soon.
