Title: Houston, we've had a problem
Post by: Oldman on April 18, 2010, 08:16:43 AM
"Houston, we've had a problem" has become widely quoted in popular culture as "Houston, we have a problem."

Well Houston I have a problem. In this first image it is an avocado tree that really is a sucker. We cut down the main trees a few years back as it was just to sick.

Here is a close up image on one twig

If each one of these fruits out I don't know how I'm going to brace up this tree and its branches.

(The splotches on the leaves were cause by lace bugs. They are gone now  ;D )

Oldman, I love avocado, but I'd chop that sucker down; it's too close to your house.  Anytime you let trees or bushes grow up against your house like that, all kinds of bugs will appreciate the easy bridge to your attic, and the obvious invitation to infest it.

How big does the tree have to be to bear fruit, Olds. We have a 2 footer volunteer from the compost pile that is growing inside.

First avocados need a fair amount of sun light. He is a link on the subject: http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/avocado.html
This was its first fruiting two years back
