Not what I was expecting, barely got it out of the box. Still looks sealed, definitely had a yeast smell to it though.
All is well? I believe you had a thread for OU812 when he got his starter so I'm off to read that and follow.
Trent
OMG I did not think a food saver bag could expand like that. WOW thats crazy
Mike
That is hilarious. Could you imagine opening the box and have that thing spring out at you. :D :D :D The box probably looked like he shipped you a basketball.
GEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
HOLY Crappiez.
I will pm you my #.
WOW, I just heard a pop from the kitchen and had images of yeast everywhere. Fortunately it was just the ziplock bag that the food saver bag was in, it finally gave up and blew apart.
Hey CRG
Imagine what it would look like if you shipped to me in Canada.
This is crazy!
Trent my # is sent to you!
That is unreal!
I had my wife put mine in the fridge as soon as it arrived, good thing she didnt have to work that day.
CRG, maybe thats why my bag had a small leak in it, I'll have to ask her if the box was all pooched out when it arrived.
Trent, now the fun begins.
I was telling Trent that I "think" I put a pin hole in the top of yours.
I talked to him on the phone and all is kewl!
Poor Gus maynot get his till tomorrow! ;D
Crazy. Would it be better to ship in a jar?
Glass ... USPS?
Might look for some plastic Jars for shipping if someone else wants the starter.
Now you know why people usually dehydrate their starter before shipping. While the product may not be as "interesting" as CRG's "dough bombs," it certainly reduces the fear factor.

Something plastic and heavy (http://www.campmor.com/backpacker-bear-resistant-food-container.shtml?source=CI&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=14097WC), perhaps..
Or, what KH says. ;)

ROFLMAO .... thanks Ka Honu. ;D
I am working on a dehydrated model.
I can see the news headline now: AP reports, "Explosion inside UPS Truck" Three city blocks evacuated, SWAT team deployed, neighbor says the guy "seemed friendly and normal".
crg --giot it today. Can't take a picture cause the wife is out of town with the camera. But mine was also bulging when I opened it. Got it opened in a jar and in the fridge. Will get to starting the bread tomorrow. I'll call you in a few minutes asking advice.
thanks again
Next time might be worth trying (or testing before next time) feeding as usual, allow it to grow and then collapse at room temp, pack the past-peak starter for shipping then refrigerate until final packaging time. For the short time of shipping the culture will be fine - with no new food source it shouldn't grow. On the receiving end feed 3 times at 12 hours intervals ASAP upon receipt, and then should be good to go.
Damn sounds like you are growing an alien
The next morning...

And here is my jar of starter ready to go into the fridge for a couple days before I start on my first batch of bread!

Need to be a bit more careful next time so I don't get some on the sides of the jar, hopefully it won't matter but it would look nicer for the photo op if the jar was all nice n clean.
Trent, you did great!
Congrats!
Here it is 8 hours later

Thanks again Sonny, couldn't have done it without you. Just goes to show, this is something totally non-Bradley related but it doesn't matter, everyone helps out when they can, gives encouragement and seems interested in people's progress and results. What a great extended family!
You are WELCOME!
Glad you showed an intrest in it!
I hope and think you will enjoy the finish product.

"IT'S ALIVE"
YES IT IS! That boy will be driving before too long! And then reproducing! ;D
Now that is what I call a bun in the oven. ;D
And it just doesn't stop

The kids are loving it, they aren't sure if they should be impressed or scared. It's actually a pretty good learning experience for them.
It's the dough that ate Chicago Minneapolis ! Run, run for your lives !
That darling is right on Target!
Does it have a name yet? ;D
It's a boy so I think I'll name it Zeke. I can tell it's a boy because it's cold and rainy today and if you look at this pic...

That's right, SHRINKAGE!
Got a party to go to so I won't be doing anything now but do I need to wait for it to shrink more before feeding it and getting ready to make bread tomorrow? Could I feed it now or should it be closer to it's starting size? Maybe by this evening when I get home I can feed it so I can make fresh bread tomorrow. Mmmmmm, fresh bread.
:D :D :D ROFLMAO that's a good one TT.
Anytime after the 24 hr frige time you can re-use.
It will stir done to size, just has a lot of gas pockets in it.
Gotta run out to a family event but I wanted to show a little sneak peak and say "Mmmmmmmmm..."

Few lessons learned I will share when I get back.
Lookin good Trent.
Looks like you got a hot spot in your oven, the loaf on the front right looks like it got a little hot. ;D
I give you an A++++ for you first try!
Congrats!
Nice Trent! :)
Outstanding !
Hey Trent That bread looks great, I cant wait to get some starter and give it a try.
Mike
Booo Yah!
Thanks guys! I just got back from dinner at the In-Laws where I brought a loaf of fresh baked bread and let me tell you, it was a huge hit. Everyone loved it! And I thought it turned out very good as well. I am really happy with the finished product. The experiences leading up to the final product definitely had me worried though. Short story is I'm thinking that even though I was spooning the flour into the measuring cup I still was pushing it against the sides of the bag a little and packing the flour some. I have to believe that I was just getting too much flour into the mix because when I added the 7 cups to everything in the KA mixer it was very dry and the mixer was having a hard time. I did add a little more water at that point but I think I should have added more. Next time I think I will try and sift the flour into a bigger measuring cup/bowl and try that as I'm pretty sure that was my problem. Other than that, a few delays here and there both from me and from the mixture taking a long time to raise meant that the bread got baked this morning before work instead of last evening. No big deal but it meant the bread was done when I was at work so I didn't get a nice warm piece to taste. Oh well, next time.
So far everyone in the family loves it. I'm already planning on making more for this weekend, probably a lot more buns and maybe just a loaf or two. Right now I still have the buns left and about a loaf and a half but I don't see that lasting long. Again, thank you so much Sonny for the starter and the knowledge you shared, it truly is appreciated and I think it will be something that will be a part of my family for a long time. And thanks to everyone else for the encouragement, it really helps!
Trent
Thanks for the update. Glad everyone enjoyed it.
I promise it gets easier the second time.
I was happy you wanted it and was glad to share.
If I can help, let me know.
Also by now, BLSH has a knowledge of what we have and can help with the finer points.
Hope it stays with the family forever!
