Title: New Stuffer
Post by: mikeradio on June 07, 2010, 11:13:14 AM
I ordered the Cabelas Stuffer and wow what a stuffer.  I went with the 20lb model, I am still looking for the motor kit
lots of websites show them but when I order they all come back and say out of stock.  Weston says they are backordered for a couple of months.

I had to try the Chicken Basil sausages that Darqman posted.  The sausages turned out great, love the basil flavour

The stuffer worked great, what a difference over my old 5 lb cheap model.

That stuffer is a beast!

So did you smoke this in the Big smoker or the Bradley?

I left these fresh, did not smoke them.  Just froze them and will cook on the BBQ or in the oven.

not sure which stuffer you purchased Quarlow, I had the one from Priness Auto,
it worked good, i used it for about 2 years, made a lot of sausage with it.
It was just too small only 5lbs and I usally make like 25lb batches, so I was filling it like 6 times

I'm still waiting on my L.E.M. 5 lber.     Order first part of May.    At that time it was back order to the 3rd week of may.   Checked their site the other day and now they're backorders to June 23 ??? :-\.   I had ordered one from Princess Auto and they phoned me a couple of hrs later to tell me they wouldn't be available until July so I cancelled and went with the LEM.    Now I'm waiting anyway >:(.

NO i am still looking >:( >:(  I have ordered 3 times from different website and paid with paypal
then the site comes back and says they dont have it in stock and refunds my paypal.
So everytime this happens I lose a bit with Visa and paypal because they dont give you the same
US exchange rate when they debit and credit your credit card.

I think I might just wait for Weston to get them in stock in a couple of months

My friend at Cabelas told me that the stuffer motors had bad wiring and switch and have been backordered until Weston get the problem fixed. She took my place when i left in the processing area so i know she is saying the truth.

Hang in there mike  ;D

I had a old fruit press we used to press sausage out of.  None of my friends would help me anymore so we built a 20lb hydraulic press (water tap powered).  I wil see if I can post the pics some time when I dig it out again.  But buying the cabelas 20lb would have been cheaper (with motor).  I think our final tab came out around 500-600.
Mostly due to trying to find a nylon piston and 1 inch thick top and bottom plates.  due to the amount of pressure this thing builds.

5.75 piston dia.
40 psi tap pressure.

3.14 X ( 2.875 X 2.875) = area of piston.  (25.95 sq/in) x (40 psi)= lifting force of piston (1038 lbs).
I can almost press unground meat.  lol but like it single ground corse

Quick question. . . .
I have the cabelas grinder like the one you have in the pic, mine is th 1 1/2 hp model and i use it for stuffing.  I have been contemplating going with the vert stuffer.  How much better is the stuffer vs using the grinder for the same purpose ????

The stuffer blows grinder stuffing away.

Is the Cabela's 20-lb stuffer a good stuffer?  I am hoping they have a Veteran's Day sale with employee pricing and am seriously contemplating this stuffer.  I just processed 3 deer through the 3/4 hp commercial grinder (grinding, then stuffing): 25 lbs summer sausage, 25 lbs pepper sticks, 25 lbs summer sausage, and 10 pounds processed venison ham (frisco spices recipe).  I told the wife, I need a stuffer.

I'm reading good and bad reviews on this stuffer.  I'm thinking the bad reviews (gears breaking, etc.) are from folks not putting enough water in their stick recipes for the smaller tubes.  So far the good reviews out weigh the bad, and we can always contribute a few problems to operator error. ;D

Sorry I haven't been on in a while guys, had a busy summer and now it has been hunting season...
