Title: splatchcock chicken
Post by: GusRobin on June 17, 2010, 07:17:12 PM
I plan on brining and splatchcocking 2 chickens about 5 lbs each, smoking at about 230F. For planning purposes, anyone have a rough idea as to how long they will take?

Sorry GR, can't really help you on the timing.  I always use max heat setting for chicken.  The spatch version will cook faster than whole as more surface area is exposed to more even heat.

I like 250* for chicken.

You are probably looking at 3 to 4 hrs total cooking time including smoke time.

I did 2 about 7.5 lbs total last week put them on @ 1 pm both were done @ 4:30. Also did some ABT on top rack. After 2 hrs I switched  rack 1 & 2.  They both came out great.  Hope this helps.
