Nice pics, nice family. Except Alexis and Victoria must be pretty short or invisible ;D ;D ;D ;D.
A Man of his word!
Thanks for the pics.
I'd say you have a beautiful little helper there.
I see you are a Cowboys fan!
Thanks.
Here they are. Control V and C must have been turned around. Or maybe too many beers!

If I were you, I'd get that Bud Light in one of those ice chests. ;D
What cuties! I'd say you're blessed.
Oh, and you got a good looking butt there too!
That Bud Light went down the hatch!
No better place for it then down there.
Very Nice!
What position was the top vent in?
Saw your girls and have to say I am sorry for you --in a few years you are going to have your hands full keeping the boys at bay. --

I think Tim is ready for them Boys, Did you see the BIG knife? ;D
Very nice all around
Top vent was close to being open all the way during the smoke. After 10 hours I closed the vent 3/4 of the way for the remainder because I was trying to keep the heat in and I was trying to get to know my new BD6. Any suggestions? The pork did develop a bit of what I tought was black rain? But I looked everywhere in the smoker and did not see any sort of condensation or stains where this stuff may have come from. Any ideas?

I asked because I was thinking you might have had it closed. It did look like black rain.
I wouldn't think that you've used it enough to have a dirty vent.
I don't mess with the vent much anymore.
Perplexing.
Was it a humid day?
I'm guessing closing the vent down to keep the heat in caused the black rain. Lesson learned, keep the vent open. Closing it down will actually knock the heat down as the mositure is retained in the tower rather than being alowed to escape.
You have beautiful daughters.
Congrats on the pork butt in spite of the rain.
Wow, beautiful kids and I like your choice of knives. I've got some of the same. Looking forward to some mouth watering pix of the finished products, plated. And welcome!
Lessons learned is right. Next time I'll leave that vent wide open and won't touch it. Luckily the pork came out great anyway.
Yesterday it was not humid at all. But it did get a bit foggy in the early A.M.! Darn it that is probably what did it, right? When I woke up to check things out at 6 everything was a bit damp such as the table and the ground.
I would say it looks good?

That knife is my baby. I fish alot locally on the Big Pond near the Channel Islands. I live just east of Ventura on this map. Anyway that is my filet knife.

Hope you all enjoyed sharing my first Butt experience with me. I really appreciate all the help. Thanks again.
You definitely have beautiful children.
As for the black rain, I'm not sure if that really is what is considered black rain. It looks like the discoloration cause from the juices that flow out of the opening that you inserted one of your probes, and mingled with your rub.
I thought the same thing too about the black streak down the butt but I figured I had something wrong and it was the black rain. I did notice that the streaks seemed to originate near the holes from the thermomoters too. I don't know but it tasted good.
Tim
Great Looking Family. I think the butt turned out perfect man, looks like the buns were toasted and plated very nice. Great Job. Tonight I am taking on my first butt.
Honey??? lol
Pics to follow.
Nice family and nice butt Tim.
I keep my vent wide open because it's stuck there ;D I'll probably just remove the dang thing.
I've only had black rain once. That was a setup with the smoker in the garage in winter and some dryer duct to vent the smoke. You can see the small spot in the pic below.
