Title: Storage
Post by: JVR on June 15, 2005, 12:07:55 AM
I just received a Bradley Smoker as a early father's day gift!  I'm interested in peoples experience of storing their unit outside.
I was thinking of storing mine on my deck under a Bradley cover, but am concerned about the unit rusting and becoming non-operational.  My other option is to keep it in my garage and bring it outside when using.

So what do people recommend?  OK to store outside?  I'm in Michigan by the way.
Cheers![:o)]

I keep mine in the garage & carry it to the deck to smoke. But I smoke year round & don't let a little rain or snow bother me.

Ya think next time I check into a hotel & they ask "Smoking or Non?" they would mind?

Welcome to the forum JVR, pretty wet and windy where I live for much of the year and I keep mine in the garage and carry it out to smoke.

I use it under a car port in bad weather to keep the rain off.

Welcome JVR!
You've got some GREAT kids to give you a Bradley!![:)] I have two black ones and leave them outside under an eave, inside a Bradley cover. I live in a wet, cold marine climate in Alaska ( http://www.homeralaska.org/ ) and have had one of them since 2002 and the other since 2003. I mostly smoke large batches of salmon through them and they have handled both the weather and salmon bravely. The wood bisquettes, of course, remain inside until in use.

In all honesty, when my garage is finished this summer, they will go inside and probably be vented to the outside through the wall......not that the smokers can't handle the winters here, but the "inside" method is a heckuva lot easier on this old used up firefighter![;)][8D]

Hope to hear some success stories from you, here on the forum. And keep loving those kids....there might be a Piper Super Cub for you in the future at this rate[;)][:D][:D]

35 years of extinguishing smoking stuff and now I'm wondering WHY!

Welcome, JVR!  I keep my black BS on my covered back porch, with the cover on.  Too lazy to carry it back and forth from the shed 15 feet away, and don't have a garage . . .

I planned on storing it outside and bought a cover from Chez, but have been keeping it in the garage.  Carry it to the deck when the weather is nice, and if it's raining, (not that that ever happens here), I set it up next to the open garage door and put a fan in front of it to blow the smoke out.

JJC, you're doing exactly what I'm considering.  How long have you stored your BBS this way?  Any issues you've encountered from doing this?

Also, thanks to all for the warm welcome!

By reading this forum, I've come across a new gadget I was unaware of.  Its the Reveo MariVac Food Tumbler.  Have to put this one on the list for next year's father's day![;)]

Been doing it since I got it in December, so it's been through a very cold winter and wet Spring, but not any hot weather yet.  It's far enough under the porch roof that I only need to cover it if it's a driving rain or blowing snow.  So far, so good.

BTW, I have a Reveo and love it!

I've had mine on the front deck since last August, with only the cover for protection. The only thing I've noticed is that the color of the cover is fading. I am planning of building an enclosed cabinet for it.
