Title: Second element questions
Post by: oopseadaisy on August 02, 2010, 06:51:54 AM
Hi all, I see from many of the posts that quite a few users have added a second heating element to their OBS.  I looked on the Bradley website and don't see this listed as an available part.  Where does this element come from?  Is it made as an add-on or is it the same as the first installed heater and just added inside the cabinet above the original?  I think this would be most helpful when adding a large load of meat to help with regaining temp quickly.

thanks Jack

Hi Jack

The element is available at Yard & Pool (He's also a forum member). Here's a link...

Here is a link to the write up on doing the 2nd element mod including pictures. You do want to make sure you are controlling the unit with a PID as it will be capable of gaining temp quickly.

Hello oopseadaisy,

Mr Walleye has you pointed in the right direction and the only thing I can add is this is a  link  (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=16299.0)
to the mod I did on my OBS. Good luck and help is but only a question away!

oops,

take a look here , running a 900 watt finned heater
http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=17329.0

and a new timer and  pid
http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=17304.0

take a look at my set up , and take a look a look at the  dual 500 watt  set up and make a decision on which one you   like  the best and go for it, the  additional heat makes a  difference on large ( 15 lb plus ) loads at  keeping the  temperature constant through out the  box,   also consider  adding a fan / blower to circulate the air, lots of help there
