I have a OBS which is busy 3-4 days a week. We have begun selling our stuff at a Farmers' market and it is headed towards being extremely successful. So I need another smoker.
I like the idea of the 6-rack digital, but I'm so used to my OBS that it's easy to think of getting another one.
Has anyone filled all 6 racks with salmon?
Thoughts?
Thanks, Rich
I, like you, have the original and have never used the digital. Based on all the posts I have read, the digital seems to have more problems than the OBS. If I were you, I would go with the original (you know how well it does). If you want electronic control, I would recommend the OBS with a PID.
I have both the OBS and 6 rack DBS. You cant beat the digital and when used with a PID its just that much better. My OBS is for cold smoking only now.
You could always buy another set of racks and double stack them in your OBS by inverting the tops ones and double your output or add the rails that Big John T has developed that can pretty much quadruple your output.
You can buy 8 more side rails (easy installation) at "Scott's place" and make it a 12 racker.
There you go! CRG, how 'bout posting one of your pics of your 12 racker for him to look at?

It's a very easy installation!

This is where I turned my 6 rack digital into an 18 rack digital.
There you go Rich!
glad you are doing so well, if all goes well might need a third
OK Rich, I have you life mapped out for you. ;D
Max rail your OBS (12 racks) and saved some profits from that.
Buy you a 6 rack digital and make it a 18 racker then mated them together like this ...

And then you can smoke 30 racks of salmon with the smoke it would take to smoke 4 racks.
Dang, I forgot all about that experiment CRG and it worked great!
CRG, you should sell those things....
I wish I could sell some eats at the Farmer's Market...rules are too strict here.
Sounds like you have a good problem. :)

Dang Sonny, you've got me thinking here...
It was a fun experiment to try and it worked out great.
I can see it working even better with fishies.
That all looked great. I would like to add a se3cond element to mine but when it comes to electricity I know nothing ??? I know there is a step by step guide but I could not tell a difference between a relay or resistor. One area I never took an interest in. I can do most anything else but afraid to try electricity.

You have a room full of people here that will help you step by step and even assist you over the phone.
I know this for a fact cause people here have helped me on several occasions. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
When you get ready, we will help you!
I'll second what CRG said! Getting help is the easy part! Because of all the help I have received I'm happy to offer help wherever I can (and I'm not alone). If your comfortable using a screwdriver, drill, crimping tool (or pliers) and either a file, bench grinder (or both) adding the second element is more of a mechanical issue then it is an electrical one even if you add the switch to the front panel.
Here (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=16299.0)is my post of what I did and on the second page of this link I give credit (and links) to the threads that were most helpful to me!
Help is but a question away, and so is a "phone-a-friend"!
Good luck!
Well, I bought the 6 rack. I went to Le Baron in Mississauga and they were having a no-sales-tax sale, so I got it for $429! (They also sell bisquettes for $14.99).
This model sure is different. After seasoning, I smoked some salmon using Kummock's 3-stage method. Very difficult to control the temperature. My first setting was 120F and the smoker gauge went to 140F or so. On the other hand, my Maverick dangled inside the box and said about 118-123F. The problem is the second stage temp is supposed to be 140F and the box thought it was already there. At this point confusion began to reign supreme.
The salmon turned out fine.
Is a PID the only answer?
Thanks, Rich
The PID will keep you dialed it to temps +-1 to 2*.
They are automatic like listening to wifes chatter.
Congrats on the six rack. I love mine.
Well, yesterday I smoked 2 8lb picnics. What was really great was being able to space them apart instead of having them crammed in.
