Well it's Monday the 23rd of Aug and TestRocket and I are gearing up to take on some really good BBQ teams in north Alabama on the 28th of Aug.
We both believe we can do well against real smokers and BGE's. Here are a few pictures from Saturdays practice runs. Remember we are only using SRG's and 1 Big Easy. I will post full results Monday after the competition

Good Luck Guys!!
I want to eat the pictures.

Good luck! What type of competition allows the use of propane?
It's a Church fund raiser and only four miles from my house (and family Church). I read a post awhile back where TMB said he worked in Huntsville and I replied that I lived and worked here too. He started telling me about a competition he was thinking about entering and before you know it...well here we are, in the deep end!
From the Church web site:
Locust Grove Baptist Church 1st Annual Shade Tree BBQ Cookoff
(http://www.locustgrove.com/bbq-cookoff.html)
sounds good,,, hope you raise a lot of funds for the church
Good luck gents
Smoke speed ( opposite of god speed )

Go get 'em guys, remember we love pic's.
Most important thing is to have fun.
Who are we kidding "Go kick some butt."
Good luck, Gents! Kill 'em with good food - we're all rootin' for you.
Good luck fellas!
Good luck you guys and "rock the smoke brothers" and most important, have oodles of fun.
We'll have fun, but only after turn in time! LOL
We have really tried some new things and I for one think we will do rather well. Funny I never thought I would meet another nut case for cooking in Huntsville!!! ;D
"nut case"
I wasn't this way until about 6 weeks ago. Well don't ask Mrs. Jan! ;D
Good luck guys!
Go get 'em!
(even with that 'no adult beverage' clause in the rules :o)

Funny thing, Kimmie said last night, I can't beleive you found someone as crazy as you about cooking!! ;D
We can't be there to help pull the Butt, but we are pullin for you. Good luck and we know you will knock em dead. Whoot
Wish I was a judge for this one :-\. Looks like it is going to be a good one.
Most competitions do not allow any propane, so being allowed to use a Big Easy
should make for an interesting competition. The poor judges will not know what the heck
happened to them :D Good luck guys we are pullin for ya.

Thanks everybody! I just finished making the BBQ sauce and I'm letting it cool down to see how thick it is. I'll taste, adjust and simmer as needed after a night in the fridge.
TMB and I just talked again and have a plan for the meat purchase along with all the extra things that need to be planned for.
He has a new mod to introduce and if it's not up now it will be soon.
Thanks again!
Update:
TMB called me last night. The boy is giddy as a school girl about this comp. They have 4 8lb butts, 5 racks of ribs and about 24 pieces of chicken. If he got any sleep last night which I doubt. he was going to start the butts at 4am and they should come off about 10-10:30am. I will update as I find out more.
Update: The butts were done in 4 hours and are resting in the cambro. Prepwork and cooking of the ribs and chicken are underway. There is some big guns at this comp basically practicing. There is a team close by that mentions something about being the GC at the 09 Jack Daniels Shade Tree Cook off on their banner!! But they are impressed with the cookers and couldn't believe OUR Boys cooked the butts in 4 hours!! They are having fun.
I gotta get my SRG outta da box still :D
Well the judging is complete. Our Boys had an Awesome Showing!!!! And they got a WALK!!! WooHoo
They got 2nd in Chicken
They got 7th in Pulled Pork
They got 6th in Ribs
They got 4th overall
Job well done Boy's
Tommy and TestRocket will be along after they get some sleep and update with pictures and the whole story.
Thanks for the update!
They did a great job.
Job well done!!! :)
Way to go boys! Proud of you. :)
Great job guys. :D
Congratulations!!!
Great job guys!!
Fantastic job guys!
Great job!!!
Way to go guys. We are proud of you.
Thank you everybody!!! ;D
Guys you all are great. I really like this forum and the people here are wonderful. I contribute the high scores to all the help I received from TestRocket, Steve, Tenpoint5 , CB and the rest of you guys on this forum and the sizzle forum. Y'all just think I know what I'm doing!!!
My love for cooking comes from my late Father and I hope that I can pass it around here. I don't do it for money, fame or trying to get something for nothing, I do it because I believe in my cookers and one day Kimmie will let me have a Bradley then I can get down to using a real smoker!!Till then y'all will just have to put up with me using my SRG's and Big Easy's!! I would love to name everyone that I get info from but there not enough ink on this computer to post them!! ;D
Peace and good Lord willing I'll get a Grand Champion out of this one day!
TMB (Tommy)
