OK with so many Bradley owners in the greater Vancouver area I was thinking it's about time we got together. If everyone is OK with it I will look into reserving Boonies in Langley http://www.boonies.ca/ for a get together. I was thinking in about a month so everyone can get it by SWMBO.
Ross
Love the idea Ross. I've been wanting to try that place out for a long time now.
I'm also thinking of maybe, and I mean maybe, having our own smoke out next summer. I've got enough room at the house to host a moderate amount of guests. We'll save that for another thread though.
Keep me posted.
Count me in! No--wait... WHERE?
I will swing by and pick you up on the way Hal. Wonder how much Tito's I need to make it up there?

We'll run on
Maker's Mark the rest of the way!
Shhh, the smoke out is a secret.
Boonies is all good though.
Sounds like a plan to me!!
Let me know the date.
Mike
So lets try and nail down a date for a small get together.
How does November 6th of 7th sound to everyone.
I would need to know how many by 25th of October
to make the reservations at Boonies. Spouses are
welcome, I know mine will be there.
Ross
I will have to check with the boss but i'm pretty sure we can make it out. I will get back to you soon.
Mike
That weekend is looking pretty open so far.
What time on the 6 or 7? The football team I coach will be in the first round of playoffs.
Mike
Will they be playing both days?
We can do it on either Saturday or Sunday.
It will be late afternoon, around dinner time.
Ross
More than likely we will be playing Sunday. Let me know what time.
Mike
I should be OK for either day. Looking forward to meeting all my "smoke bros"
How the heck did I miss this. I guess I have be working to many hours lately. I will be there and any day is good for us.
Don't know how you missed this one Q I thought you were mad at me :'( glad the two of you can make it.
Oh how could I be mad at you. ;D
OK so lets do this on November 6th a Saturday at let say
6:00pm. Let me know if you are coming and how many,
I will contact Boonies to make a reservation.

Ross
Just got an E-mail from Boonies, they are no longer in Business as of today.
It looks like they have been kicked out of their location. So we need a different spot
for the get together. Any ideas?
Ross
How about the Big Nickel in Sudbury Ontario? It sure would make my trip shorter.....

Doesn't that just figure eh.
That sucks. I've been wanting to try that place for ages.
Here's a few ideas.
Memphis Blues
Ozarks
Nicks Spaghetti house - The Ribs aren't smoked but they're pretty good.
Ross, Langley seemed to be pretty central to most of us. Is there another place in Langley that you like?
The new liquor laws are really hitting the pubs and restaurants hard. I know of one pub who's sales are down 50% !! How much longer it can survive is anyone's guess.
Just saw this mornings news stating 20000 violations in the first month of the new laws !!! Yikes !!
Whoops! The 20000 was for use of cell phone tickets. But new liquor law violations are now at 1400.
We could go to Ozarks, what does everyone else think, there is also bbq joint in Mission bit that may be a little far for everyone.
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
Ozarks is fine with me. What are the new laws? I have not heard a thing about them other than we have new laws.
I've never been to Ozarks but the review here http://dinehere.ca/langley/ozarks-famous-bbq sound pretty good. My wife and I are in!!
Quarlow, the new liquor laws... police can stop you for no reason (ie: no probable cause), ask you (demand) that you take a breathalyzer test and if you blow over .05, well, lets just say that the penalties are pretty substantial. This site sums it up pretty well, http://www.duanestorey.com/news/bcs-new-liquor-laws/
The problem most people are having with the new laws is that nobody can really tell what number of drinks will put them over the .05 limit. For some people one glass of ie: wine/beer is all it takes, for others maybe two glasses of wine/beer. People's metabolisms are different and consequently the results will differ from person to person. I think it was "Mythbusters" where they showed -after everybody drinking the same amount of alcohol - a little woman of maybe 140 pounds having a lower rate than a 200 pound guy. The effects of alcohol are also affected by the amount of food in your stomach. So whether you have dinner with your one glass of wine or not, will affect how you "blow" on the breathalyzer.
One of our local newspapers stated that a 160 pound guy will be over .05 after one drink.
The law removes the principle of innocent until proven guilty (the police don't have to have any probable cause to pull you over ie: you can be driving under the speed limit, not weaving all over the road, not running red lights etc, and the police can pull you over. Forgetting about the liquor laws for a second - we are all now subject to the whims of the police to pull us over while we are driving. I don't like this elimination of my one of my freedoms.
Don't get me wrong, I am supportive and appreciative of our police and their efforts- I wouldn't want their job for a day- but I think this law is the start of a slippery slope where our collective rights are being eroded.
Sorry for the rant....
You forgot to mention that doing 40km over the speed limit automatically gets your vehicle impounded on top of the huge fines.
I did know about the "no reason" to pull you over thing. That's pretty scary. Won't be long before they come into my house and tell me what to watch on TV. Guess my grandfather risked in his life in WW2 for nothing.
Back to the point, I'm in for Ozarks.
Yes and that direction of law coupled with the gun registery makes it that much closer to them showing up at my door for no reason and hauling away my guns. Makes me nervous.
I just returned from Alberta the other night, and had the privilege to sit next to a local RCMP officer from my local area of Victoria. We had a long chat about this new 0.05% law and how it truly came to be, and why. The fear about 1 drink in a 160lb man is horse 0. This officer is certified to run the toxicology tests inside the station, after the accused has failed the roadside breathalyzer. <Which I used to have to take daily before work> He stated that my wife of 105lbs would be able to have 2-3 drinks and still not fail the roadside if she eats regular meals. Which we tested ha ha!! And 5 to 8 drinks for myself being 260 lbs and a regular drinker and obviously regular eater before I failed the 0.05%. The penalties for the offence are minimal and more of a deterrent when compared to an impaired. And quite honestly the law is still on the fence whether it would truly hold up in court if challenged, but having a liberal govt in makes it so a minority vote puts laws in till defeated. To date no one has challenged it as you are instantly guilty with no recourse.
This law was brought in as a cash grab as he pointed out to me, as anyone charged with a DUI blowing under 0.12% will 9 times out of 10 get out of a DUI with legal assistance. It is terribly frustrating he stated and unless people basically plead guilty right off, they get out of it due to the mechanics of the machine and inaccuracy of the testing. I have tested this theory sadly as well, when I was more immature... 5000-7000$ and you will get out of any impaired thrown at you with proper council in Alberta or British Columbia. <the toxicology machine is tested once a month due to the expensive cost to have it calibrated, and is proven inaccurate after 3 days of use in most stations.> BUT hopefully, its a wake up call to not drive over the legal limit at all, if you ever are foolish enough to have to go through that!
Basically the idea is that if people get the idea that they cant drink more than one drink on the way home from work at their local tavern, then they wont stop at all. Unfortunately for most business owners this is killing them. Combined with our new tax, the HST, most small neighbourhood pubs are dying fast and its a damn shame.
Being a small company owner myself, the new tax is killing new home builds and now I'm even losing the places I enjoy having a pint! I still don't worry about the new 0.05% law and probably never will, nor should any of you up here in BC Canada. Moderation is the key to life, just be aware that 2 drinks should be your maximum for any sized person and you will be fine.
Sorry just ranting and sharing some knowledge. I seem to be the guy who learns all this the hard way haha.
Ok so I really goofed up here guys. It seems as if the 6th is also the wine festival in Langley.
I was told by SWMBO that we have tickets for the festival and are going. The dates that I still
have free according to SWMBO are Nov. 14th, 20th and 21st. What is good for everyone? Or
you guys can meet up without me :'(
Ross
Did somebody say "Wine Festival" ??
Fill in the details Ross. The only thing better than a meet and greet of Smoking Bros is a wine festival - and for some reason our calendar has that night filled with another event, but it just got canceled :o So we are open for something else!!
We would be available any alternative nights you mentioned for the dinner, but the earlier the better for us as Xmas events also start around there.
It's all good for us too.

The wine festival is in Willowbrook mall. Tickets are $50.00 each but there should be a bunch of wineries from all over the province. It is a fund raise for Rotary. Should be a fun night, ticket are at Willowbrook customer service. We are walking to the Mall and taking a Cab home :D

Restaurant? I thought we were going to a "Smoking" BBQ joint with sawdust on the floors, spitoons and cobwebs in the corners and large platters on the tables to toss the rib bones onto...
Looking forward to it!!
That was the plan but they closed the doors. So ross had to find a new place.
See everyone next Saturday.

Gosh Darn it!!! Turns out that this Monday is my B-day and my wife has some plans for me this Saturday. THe surprise is ruined. So, it looks like I'm gonna have to bail otherwise the boss will be really upset and NOBODY wants that. Bums me out because I was really looking forward to meeting you guys. Plus I think it would be cool to sit amongst others that are equally passionate about smoking as I am. Some people just don't get it. Oh well, maybe next time. I'm looking forward to reviews on the food. Sorry Ross, I really hope I'm not putting you out. Wifey says sorry too. :'(
Well I won't be with SD in spirit. ;D

I'm in Poco. Bring leftovers!!!
Last night the crew met at Ozarks for dinner. First after introductions was to get a drink have a look at the menu and then Colin opens a bag of goodies from classicrockgriller starts dividing it up. Thanks a bunch CRG for all the goodies.

Baby Back Ribs
(http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d57/Slamdunk1/IMG_1216.jpg)
I had the Baby back ribs and they were good, a nice smokes flavor and the sauce was not to heavy. I wold defiantly go back again. I will let the other weigh in on what they thought of their dinners. It was nice to sit a chat and meet some more of the members. Lets do it again.
Ross
Ross,
These meet and greets are good for those that attend because you get to meet the folks you have been talking to all this time,, It is good for us that just see the pictures becasue we get to put faces with names. On behalf of us looky lou's , thanks for putting it together. Following this thread I know a lot of obstacles popped up in your planning.
I'm with Gus. Getting to meet a Forum friend in Real time is just Awesome.
Know you guys had a good time and the Food looks GREAT!
It will be Bigger and Better next time!
( I wonder how many "eh!" got echoed at that table. ;D )
Looks like you guys had a good time and a gift from CRG to boot! Very nice CRG. Wish I could have made it but we ended up with a house full of of drunken friends. Everyone survived except for a wine glass. Looks like I'm gonna spend another day cleaning the house!

I sent the pkg before your plans changed. Quarlow has the same thing for you.
He said he would make plans to meet up with you!
Looks like a Great Time was had and some pretty good looking food as well.
You're the best CRG!!! Thank you. ;)
Yes we had a good time! It was nice to put faces to names and chat. And CRG's surprise gift of rubs and seasonings, along with a rub that Ross gave Colin and I, was a great way to start the night. Then Colin hauled out four large bottles of CT that somebody backed out on from his big order that I had told Colin I would take!! What a haul for me!!
CRG, we used the pig rub on some pork side ribs last night and they were very tasty, as was the CT lathered drummies that we had with the ribs.
Ross almost convinced us all to take the judges course for BBQ competitions. But then he mentioned you eat about two pounds of meat during the day! I don't think my doc would like me doing that, but the thought or trying so many different styles of BBQ is very tempting.
I was impressed with the restaurant. Walking in through the front door, a warm smoky aroma was the first thing you noticed. Good sign for us smokies! I'd definitely go back again. Much better food than our more local smoked food restaruant.
We ordered the platter for two. The ribs were very tasty but a bit overdone IMHO. The pulled pork and coleslaw were my favorite. I've tried pulled pork before and didn't really like it, but this stuff was good. While Mrs Slam tried the chicken breast and quite liked it, the wings were very disappointing - dry and stringy as if they had been deep fried twice.
Anyway to sum up - a good night with good food and I hope we do it again soon, hopefully with a few more Lower mainland people..
Glad you guys are enjoying the Rub, but the most important thing was
ya'll got to meet and enjoy each other. I know it was a FUN time.
We did have a good time, there was even talk about doing it again but with Bradley Smokers involved.
I think Sticky Dan wanted to do a smoke in. Now just to find a suitable place.......

our Company x-mas party and my B-Day party as well.
I will come to the next one.

You can surprise us at the TSO!
It's OK, I promise.
Brian, Happy Birthday!!!
Ross, maybe we should talk about a smoke out at my place in the spring. It's not a huge place but I'm sure it would do the trick although I'm not really sure how many people would actually show up. I could be in for a surprise...
Sounds good Dan I will send you my contact info so we can get together and
try and plan something.
Brian you or any of the Bradley family is welcome to any event as far as I am concerned
I am sure everyone else would agree.
Ross
On second thought, Brian probably has a much better set up than I do. Hmmm ;) ;D ;D

Sure I can see it now Brian tells what his home address is then everyone would be stopping by for smoked food and I can imagine how many would be stopping by asking him to fix their Bradley instead of coming here.
10.5 are you saying that would be a bad thing ?? :o
And I agree, I think it'd be great to treat Brian and the Brad family to some good eats.
Another good thing that comes out of get togethers like this is information. Before dinner while having drinks Slamdunk mentioned that they had just pick up some frozen side ribs form a local store for $ .99 a lb. The next day my loving wife and I went to said store to get in on the deal. Unfortunately they were all out but we each got a rain check. Yesterday we went to see if there were any ribs after we finished work. After looking and not finding any we asked the assistant manager if they were in. He knew nothing about the sale as he had been on holidays and last night was his first day back. After looking he could not find any and suggested that we come back today. We were on our way to the check out and here comes the Assistant manager with a package of ribs, now they were not frozen, I did not think they were the ones on sale but whatr the heck he is the assistant manager. Well the cashier had to reweigh the ribs and have a new label made. I was very happy with the price, I just wish I could get more like this at this price. They really messed up and gave us the ribs at $ .99 a kilogram. We ended up paying $1.73 for the package of ribs. That is 3.85 lbs. of ribs for $1.73 or $.45 a pound. Thanks Murray for the heads up. Also we still have our rainchecks and will be going back for the frozen ribs.

That might be the "Deal of the Week".
Nice snag!
You guys group (Vancouver) is large enough that combine together, ya'll came become
a large buying power and to re-distribute, the cost doesn't become a factor.
What a score Ross!! Might just have to go back myself!! What did the asst manager look like? I want to hunt him down and ask for the same deal you got!! The ribs we got were really good, hope your's are as well.
We have a rain check for the pork loins @ $1.89 a pound. Gonna get quite a few of them.
