The weather is starting to cool off a bit and MLB Playoffs are here!!!! GO RAYS! ;D ;D ;D
I know there are a lot of you guys from Texas out there. So what do you think about the Rays vs Rangers match-up in round 1?
Or any other match-up: Yankees vs Twins, Red vs Phillies, Giants vs Braves....
Red vs Phillies:
I'm a Reds fan and have been for 45+ years and its great to see them back in the playoffs.
The young - underdog Reds are obviously happy to be in the playoffs, but the key is avoiding that happy-to-be-here attitude. Manager Dusty Baker thinks his players will be OK when Game 1 starts at 5:07 p.m. in Philadelphia.
Edinson Volquez (4-3) vs Roy Halladay (21-10)
The Reds will have MVP candidate Joey Votto leading the way for Cincinnati.
Being from WV I grew up watching the Reds and loved watching Barry Larkin, Paul O'Neil, Eric Davis and the Nasty Boys win the 1990 World Series. Great memories with my father and grandfather. I will be pulling for the Reds, but I have been in FL too long and I am a Tampa Bay Rays Homer now. Good luck to you SS, enjoy the games and here's the the Reds taking down the World Series Favorites.... (whom also took broke my heart 2 years ago in the World Series)
SS - Looks like both our teams are in a hole....
Hey Snelly, yeah the Reds sure didn't look good. NO HITS!!
I grew up in Ironton, Ohio just 12 miles from Huntington, WV. I started to go to school at Marshall or WVU but I got a baseball scholarship at Morehead, KY.
Moved to Tampa and lived there for almost ten years before selling a business I owned out on Memorial Hwy and moving back here.
What I miss about Florida... Dog Tracks. Loved them!
Reds are off today but we still have Rangers vs Rays 2:37 PM ET, October 7, 2010 Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida - I will be watching and hoping that the Rays win this one.
Yeah Roy Halladay is tough. The Rays had their chances, the biggest came in the first inning bases loaded with one out and they couldn't get anyone in. You dont get man chances to score on Cliff Lee. But, there's always today.
I was born in Parkersburg, but most of my time in WV was spent in the Charleston area. Out of all the things FL has to offer, you miss the dog tracks??? lol
The have some big one up there. I wish I had more fridays off when the dogs are in town here in Sarasota. There's just something about .50 hot dogs and beer....
No tracks in OH? I know there are/were some in WV.

Famous Alabama saying:
" It is better to be there and in a hole, then to be in a hole that is not therel"
(or maybe someday it will be famous ;D)
I lived in Jax for 13 years and we had Dog Racing near-by all year.
Spent a couple of lunch hours at the Matinee. ;D
I am a Yankee's Fan.
Have been all my life due to: Maris, Mantle, Berra, Ford, etc.
Always wanted to watch them play ball in the Bronx.
Die hard Yankee fan here also. One of my fondest memories was visiting my sister in 1978. She lived in Boston at the time. Had a few hours before my flight home so we went to a bar to watch the 1 game playoff between the Sox and Yanks. I caught grief the whole game. I was walking out to get in the car to go to the airport just as Bucky Dent ( or Bucky "#@*&#$" Dent as the Sox fans say) hit the 3 run HR to give the Yanks the lead. As the car was running outside the door, I turned before left and gave an indication to all in the bar that the Yanks were number 1 by using the finger between my index and ring finger plus a few choice words. Ran fast as I could jumped in the car and got the hell out of dodge. Ah, the good old days.

There is one down around Nitro, WV - I think its actually in Cross Lanes - been there several times but I have to drive about 3-1/2 to 4 hours to get there.
We do have a lot of horse racing here in the Blue Grass however.

I've been to the one in Cross Lanes a few times.
I cry (literally like a baby- I'm not ashamed) every time I see Halladay in a Phillies uniform.
He's my favourite player to ever don a Blue Jays Uniform finally replacing my boyhood heros of Dave Stieb and George Bell.
There has never been a pitcher that is more fun to watch confound batters like he can. Last night was proof.
I'll be pulling for the Phillies for him alone.
I'm also be pulling against the Yankees and the Rays. I can't hate them all year and then start pulling for them now. Booo. ;D

Well when there's no salary cap teams like the Yankee, Red Sox, Phillies.... can buy any player they want so a small market team like the Rays and Jays try to trade away their stud before he walks away for more money. Cant blame the player. How do you think I am going to feel the greatest player in Rays history (Crawford) puts on an Angels, Yankees or Red Sux Jersey?
Amen to that. He is a great player. Always a treat to watch.
Today's playoff results: Thursday, Oct 7th
Yankees defeats Twins 5-2
Rangers defeats Rays 6-0
Braves vs Giants
Snelly - I think Rangers in THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Well that would be a safe bet. I would also bet the series wont make it back here for game 5. The Rays are totally out of sink right now...
At least hockey is starting. GO Lightning!
So now, today's effort becomes merely Cincinnati's biggest baseball game since the opener of the 1990 World Series. It is surely the biggest start of Bronson Arroyo's career. A win would un-set the all-Philly tone. It would validate the Reds as legitimate comeback jacks, not just a band of overachievers who feasted on bad teams all summer.

Reds vs Phillies 6:07 PM ET, October 8, 2010 Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I'm pullin for the reds tonight! Hopefully they do better than the Rays did last night.
162-gazillion games and it comes down to one. Makes you wonder about it.
Yeah.... It stings a little bit....
It drives you crazy. The season is over for the vast majority of teams by the middle of June (July at the latest) and you've still 3 more months to play.
Rays are good now, but how tough was it when they were at the bottom for all those early years? And looking at an empty Tropicana field was always hard. And now Baltimore languishes there in the east. We get teased in Toronto every spring, but it never seems to amount to much.
When I was a kid, the Blue Jays would have great attendance. My parents used to drive my brother and I and usually a friend each down to the games (in the mid to late 80s). They'd drop us off in the cheap bleacher seats and then go by themselves and sit along 1st base line. We'd be sitting in left field right behind George Bell. It used to be packed out there in that Grandstand. We'd yell and act like goofs. The drive of 1987 where we battled the Yankees right into late September is still one of my favourite memories about baseball. You know, I really don't think it cost that much. I'll have to check with my parents this weekend. Now with Blue Jay tickets the way they are, if I take my wife and 2 kids to the ball park, after parking and concessions ($10 beers) I could drop $150 to $200 in no time. At 80ish home games, it's no wonder they can't put bums in the seats.
Sorry for the rant. I enjoy the game of baseball, but I'm at a loss on the economics of it.

Phillies/Reds. I don't have a favorite. I can't recall seeing that many errors in one game, let alone a playoff game.
Let the better team win and try to catch the damn ball!
Defensive miscues by the Reds helped the Phillies battle back from a 4-run deficit and take a 2-0 lead in the National League Division Series with a 7-4 win.
Game 5 is here and my anxiety is through the roof...... I can't drink beer fast enough....
