Title: SMOKED WHOLE TURKEY
Post by: Oysterhog on October 18, 2010, 06:31:07 AM
I tried KevinG's recipe http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=12806.0. I only deviated with some of the smoke times and temperature settings. It was good, a bit salty when first tasted, better after it was cold. Jucy, yes!

After 13 hours....Touchdown!

Kind of looks like a frog

Nice job! It's getting close to the time of year for great prices on the birds. Time to find some all naturals and stock up for the holiday smoking fest.  ;D

This was a frozen 17 lb "cheap" turkey from last year. Usually we have used them all up by now to make room for this years. They are the "lost leader" items to get you into the store. Probably was less than $10. I used to raise my own, but I don't do that any more. I have one more to experiment on with another receipe.
I didn't say the total cook time in the entry: 20 hours in the Bradley and 1 hour in the oven at 325°.

I'm going to try this over the weekend.  Just to clarify, was it 13 hours as in your first post or 20 hours as in the last post?  What temp in the bradley?  Thanks.

I followed the directions pretty much, except I only closed vent to 50° after 5 hours and increased the temp to 220° for the last 4 hours. The 13 hour thing was just for a picture and a peek. So, I used the Bradley for 19 hours and the oven for 1 hour. You just need to adjust your times so you can get some sleep between messing with it.
