Title: Crazy Day at the office
Post by: SnellySmokesEm on October 21, 2010, 08:27:03 AM
So we have this intern that works with us come in today and my boss noticed he was stumbling around and asked me to observe him.  Next thing I know he was stumbling to the water cooler and fell to the ground with a cup of water reaching for the pill he just dropped.  I asked him if he was feeling ok and asked if he was diabetic.  He stated that he was on medication.  I told him to go sit down and next thing I know he's asleep at his desk.  I took the pill to my boss and told him that he was definitley messed up on pills.  I woke him up and asked him again if he was feeling ok and he said he was just tired and didnt get much sleep.  A few minutes later he's sleeping again so I wake him up and ask him what he's on, oxycontin? xanax?  He replied that he was on xanax for anxiety and I said I think he took too many.  At this time I told my boss the call the paramedics because he was not doing too good and went back to check on him again and he was passed out again.  At this point I wake him up tell him to walk around get some water and some fresh air.  Next thing I know he's passed out standing up leaning up against the wall knocking stuff all over the place.  The 911 dispatcher tells us to put him on the ground and lay him down which we did and he passed out until the Medics got here.  We went through his bag and found 3 bottles of pills, which the EMT's said were very strong narcotics, and a mini bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream.  I also found four pills and a few broken pieces on the floor at his work station.  The EMT asked if he was trying to hurt himself or trying to commit suicide and he replies YES  :o  WOW  I hope the kids ok.  I knew exactly what he was on when I saw him passing out.  I had a best friend dye 8 years ago of a drug overdose from oxycontin and another good friend that got addicted to him and acted just the same way.  I feel bad that we had to get the authorities involved but I had no other choice.  The kid was in bad shape.

Anyway just needed to vent a little, hope your day is better than mine.

You may feel bad, but you probably saved his life. Too many times people are hesitant to get the authorities involved because of the resultant issues, but I think in this case you made the right decision and should have a little pride that you did the right thing. Good job!

Kinda sounds like he wants help and doesn't know how to ask for it.

I agree you did right. Be happy you helped out!

Thanks guys.  I do feel better now, hope the kids alright.  Since he told the EMT's that he was trying to hurt himself they will Baker Act him.  A Baker Act is a 72hr hold in a treatment facility.

I assume the street because the labels were ripped off.

Sound to me Snelly that the kid was screaming for help cause he could have just stayed home or gone off somewhere private to overdose.  Quick thinking on your part ... Now go smoke something!!

Why don't you treat yourself to a frosty cold one as well(or 3).  I'd be looking forward to a beer more than I usually am after an incident like that.

Good work.  You saved that kid.  Hope he gets the help he needs.

Yikes!  Ya done good, Snelly.  It's pretty sad when someone is really trying to hurt themselves (or maybe just needs attention that badly).

Many moons ago, I ran a restaurant, and all the boyz in the kitchen were always drunk.  They weren't trying to hurt themselves, they were just happy drunks.  Most of them showed up regularly, and did a pretty good job.  Once in a while, I had to fire someone for being too drunk, or stealing liqour, but truth is, I couldn't get anyone else to do the jobs.  You can't even imagine how many times a new waitron unit would whisper to me, "I don't wanna be a snitch, but I think that guy's been drinking"...  Ohhh, ok, thanks, I'll take care of it.

"Hey, Joe...  Pop some of these mints."
