Title: FOODSAVER BAGS / ROLLS
Post by: Jim O on October 21, 2010, 01:15:37 PM
Has anyone found a cheap source for bags and rolls.

I just smoked a bunch of cheese to use as stocking stuffers at Christmas.

There seems like an awful lot of waste using the rolls and the 8" bags aren't much better.

Anyone have any tips on vaccum sealing.

Thanks

Jim O

I buy them in a box from Sam's.

(3) 11' rolls
(2) 8' rolls
(20) gallon bags

for about $40

But I think STC has found a place cheaper.

I buy mostly quart bags from this guy:

http://stores.ebay.com/All-Vacuum-Seal-and-Butcher-Supply/_i.html?rt=nc&_dmd=2&_sid=112725883

100 bags is $21.99 plus shipping.

I do have some gallon bags from him as well, and they are massive.   Each one easily holds 5 pounds of pulled pork.

He's got pint sized (6" x 10") bags as well.

I've been using these Weston bags I buy from Amazon.com -- no sales tax, and since we are Prime members no shipping charges (and 2nd day delivery too).  Three sizes, different prices, click the size you like in the "Size" box right below the price in red and the price will update.

For years, before Prime, it would be rare that the brown truck didn't stop at our house with Amazon boxes at least twice a week.  I think we signed up for Prime as soon as it was possible.  Since shipping isn't a consideration anymore, so long as it's direct from Amazon, they are usually the first place I look for stuff.

I get Amazon rewards for EVERY purchase I make (Amazon Visa) so, I get a lot of points, and often have some certificates to spend.  Others here use that card too (I'm pretty sure Deb does)...  Anyhow...  BRYAN... A lot of retailers sell through Amazon...  I'm sure they (Amazon) get their share of the pie, but sure does open up a lot of new customers for retailers.  Heck, because I am often using the certificates, if the price seems ok, I don't even comparison shop, because I don't want to come up with cash when I have these certificates laying around.  Furthermore, like millions of people who use the Amazon Visa, it's a dead certainty that I will buying a certain amount of goods there.

I ordered a bunch from Amazon today: two books, 200 vac bags, and a bunch of accessories for my $16,000 Ipod Touch.  No cash out of pocket.

Try www.bestvacuumbags.com they are in BC.

Works out to about 30cents/bag for pint and quart.

Jim

I find that Costco has the best deal on rolls for the Foodsaver
They are usually about $39 a box and the box has 6 rolls in it
They are on sale this week, 9 bucks off a box
I picked up a box yesterday and I think I will pick up another before the end of the week when the sale is over

You probably have to go to Barrie to find a Costco but it could be worth the drive

Thanks OS

I was planning on going to Costco this week to pick up some salmon and trout to smoke.

I'll check out the rolls when I'm there.
