How long can you safely FTC a butt?  Thanks!

It depends on the starting (finishing) IT, the insulation of the cooler and the number of butts.

I have done six to eight hours with four butts and they were still over 140F when I pulled them.

This will be a single butt.  The finishing IT will be between 195 and 200 degrees.

I'd say in a good cooler (I use a igloo "ultra cold") you could get 3-4 hours easy.

Double-foil, wrap in plenty of towels (and then maybe some newspapers too)...
You'll be surprised how long it continues to cook/stay HOT.
Probe it in FTC, and then you'll know you're safe.  ;D

If you Have to go longer, throw an electric heating pad in the mix.
