Title: Food Poisoning news.
Post by: manxman on July 07, 2005, 01:04:06 PM
This article appeared in the UK press today, given that the numbers of food poisoning cases are similar per head of population between the US and UK and that 80% occur in commercial outlets, it may well be representative of both countries!!

Makes scary reading!!

I am not sure (because I was delerious) but I think the last time I had food poisoning I offered my soul to the devil.[}:)]  It didnt help.[:(]  I have had it 3 times with varying severity.  Not a fun experience.

I would like to see some testing like this done here. I like the posting of the restaurant name. This is no doubt a wake up call for the other food joints.

The consumer organisation that carried out the research" Which", is very well known in the UK for championing various causes and they are not afraid to name and shame on a whole variety of topics!! They carry a lot of weight over here.

Could do with more organisations like this world wide methinks!!

Manxman,

Yeah, I read those articles.  2 times I had food poisoning were from resturant food.  1 time was when I was in high school and I cooked up a steak that must have been sitting in the refrigerator a little too long.

My wife has a masters in Meat Science and I was a professional brewer for a while. I think we are fairly careful when it comes to food safety.  Most of all it is just common sense.  I allways feel like I am pushing the envelope just a little bit making sushi and steak tartar.  I eat alot of raw meat when I am cutting up an animal carcass (beef, deer, elk, bison, antelope)  What the heck sometimes the envelope needs to be pushed!  Not a problem yet!

Now I remember why we don't go out to eat....J/K!

However, in my short life (ya ya LOL) I've had it 5 times. The last time was in 1976 and it came from soft served Ice Cream. That one put me into a hospital. I was losing so much fluid through my bleeding that the doctor told me later that if I had waited another few hours or another day I might have very well died or caused serious perminate damage to my person. The business was a Dairy Queen.

To this day I no longer eat soft served ice cream, and I will never go into another Dairy Queen.

You hit the nail on the head Foam Steak, most of it is common sense.

Having said that, life would be awful boring if people didn't "push the envelope" occasionally!![}:)]

Anyway, tell us more about the farm girls Chez![}:)][;)]
