Title: New Orleans escape
Post by: ronbeaux on November 05, 2010, 04:57:25 PM
Just returned from NO after staying in a balcony room on Bourbon Street. We tried to pick a few days we THOUGHT we would have the place to ourselves.

Not!

Ate at Oceana, Jimmy Buffett, and NOLA.

This place doesn't get quiet until 0300 and the trash trucks come around at 0600. So much for sleeping!

Fun!

But yeah...  Forget about 'sleep'.

"Sleepless in New Orleans"

It sounds like you had fun and some good eats anyway.

Great place.  That pic brings back memories of yesteryear.

Compared to the Mardi Gras season, you did have the place to yourself. During Mardi-Gras you would not be able to see any pavement or sidewalk. Elbow to elbow people. You went at a good time. Bourbon Street in NO is not a place to go for rest and relaxation, it is a place to party.

I see that you were across the street from Rick's Cabaret and you didn't try that out??

I hear that they have some awesome looking girls working there now!

Actually thast was Rick's Sportsbar and supposedly the girls had clothes on.. We didn't go in there.

All we did was eat!!!!!!!!

Oceana:
Oceana's Famous Oysters
Freshly shucked Louisiana Oysters on the half-shell, chargrilled over an open flame, smothered with our unique zesty garlic and cream herb cajun sauce, finished with a fresh blend of Parmesan and Romano cheeses.

Grilled Ahi Tuna "La Boheme"
Grilled and topped with barbecued shrimp New Orleans style. Served with steamed vegetables of the day and roasted garlic potatoes.

"Jazzy" Crab Cake Platter
Not all crab cakes are created equal. Once you try these you'll be a believer. Topped with Chef Louis' fresh crawfish cream sauce! Served with potatoes and vegetables.

Jimmy Buffet:

Cuban sandwich with spicey onion rings for me and a fried shrimp 'Po Boy' for her

Crab, Shrimp and Mushroom Dip
Our signature appetizer... jumbo lump blue crab meat, gulf shrimp and mushrooms simmered in a Cajun cream sauce and served with toasted French bread. We make it here so you know it's good!

NOLA

We got the specials.

Foie gras on a crispy french bread with some baby arugala and a fig marmilade

Harris Farm Ribeye served with roasted baby potato and snow peas over a blue cheese and pan drippings sauce.

Had the most fun at NOLA. We requested the Chef's bar and sat across from them working. Talk about smooth and consistant!

Ron,
So how was the Royal Sonesta?  ;)  If they would just make the Famous Door turn down the music at least a little for late night........

Man, you're killing Jan and me but you know that don't you?

Got some tasso curing in the frig.  Hitting the smoke tomorrow!
