Title: Cleaning my DBS
Post by: Rudyfo on November 09, 2010, 10:39:47 AM
Just wondering what exactly you should clean after you smoke? I have been cleaning my V tray, grates, and the door seal. Otherwise, I have not cleaned anything in the inside...It is getting pretty brown but I decided to let it go. Also, the grates are very hard to clean. Anyone have any tips on cleaning them? thanks!

I spray my racks and V-tray with Canola Oil before I use them (Canola oil stands the high heat better)

And then I spray them with Dawn Power Scrub when I clean them.

Anything removeable, I clean.

Most people are doing the same things you are (V tray, racks and door seal) but I have seen advice to wipe any build up on the inside around the vent hole. It seems if anything drips down on your food it's not going to taste very good. As far as the racks I found a plastic tub that is big enough for them to sit in and I soak the trays in hot soppy water over night and it helps a lot.

inside the  cabinet i would clean only the  excess build up, flakes and grease to prevent  fires, as for the v tray, grates, and pan, what i do is put it in a tub add dish soap with a de-greaser   and let soak over night then scrape off the bulky stuff first  then with a scouring pad clean the  rest.

also have turned up the heat as high as it  would go in the smoker and dried  the  food till it became flaky and then it came right  off

On my sixth smoke (bacon) which was this past weekend I noticed a pinkish stain develop around the inside perimeter of the door next to the seal. It seems like it would be stubborn to remove. Anyone have the same experience?

Was the pig still squealing when you put it in the smoker?  ;D
