hey all for you Toronto area folks the new food store at 747 Don Mills rd (called Sunny Food market I think- has only been open a week or so) has pork shoulder butts on sale for .99 cents a lbs ..... This is the cheapest I have been able to find up here . I will be stopping by on the way home from work since its just down the road! Thought I would pass it along
Thanks for that
Wish I was closer, stranded out here in the west end
The gas cost would kill any savings
But SOON pork will be dirt cheap, usually in January and all will be right with the world again

That is unless you are a hog farmer ;)
And live close to Mennonites ;)

Same here in Illinois --- Smoked two Sam's butts last night --- $1.58/lb
They were $1.18 for a long time, then up and up, a dime at a time...
Been $1.58 for a couple of months now.
Strange how the prices stay stable for a long time, then quietly
sneak up 34%!!!!
They call the underlying culprit "quantitative easing"...
Apparently, it sounds much better than:
"We just print money to pay for all that socialist 'free stuff', which devalues the dollar, biting you really, really hard in the @ss."
Awrighten....or Amen brother!!!!
Thanks for the heads up. Is this an Asian market? - Oceans and Seasons here in Brampton are Asian markets. They have great meat sales like this one. I also get pork bellies (bacon) at $1.39 - $1.59 per pound. These stores are about the half way point for both of you in case you are interested. There flyers can be found at www.flyermall.com every week.

Hal, you have it right. The brisket here in Ca. is $4..00-$5.00/#. Tri tip @ $2.00 or sirloin @$3.00/#. I just don't do brisket anymore. Pork is the best buy here and for a butt is $1.39/# today, but the gov. and printing money and more regs could change that for tomorrow. Yes, I am pi@%ed off.

Hi JJ;
Thanks for mentioning Oceans and Seasons... I hadn't heard about them before. I usually shop at Yuan Ming on Burnhamthorpe, which although it has good prices particularly on salmon ($5.99 tails, $6.99 centre cuts), is a bit dingy. I think that O&S store in Mississauga might be the Food Basics that was there -- if so, it will be a huge store.
Thanks, Rich
Hey JJ;
My wife and I went there today and it was the former Food Basics. Very very very impressive, at the same level as T&T.
Yuan Ming is going to need a makeover very quickly. It's big, as it used to be a Canadian Tire, but it needs a cleanup on aisle nine....
Rich
Yes its an asain store. With the sale being over the butts are 1.59 a pound. They have pork bellies too at 1.99 a lbs I think. I will have to check out O and S if I am in the area.
Gotta love competition!!
The asian supermarkets here in scarborough compete on a regular basis. There are about 4 of them that always have a meat special every week. It is getting a little bit cold for smoking this week though.
