Title: What can you tell me about 3D HD Tv's
Post by: thirtydaZe on December 07, 2010, 09:37:17 AM
We are thinking about buying one this week, but to be honest, i don't really know much about them at all.

My biggest question is, if not watching a 3d movie, or say for example you are watching the travel channel HD, is there any issues with the picture?

We looked at one at the store, and without glasses the picture was crap.

I read today at Sony's website:
Quote
when you're ready, simply add the Sony 3D sync transmitter and 3D active glasses (each sold separately) to watch 3D entertainment in HD.

This makes me think that HD is fine and the 3D is a mode of it's own?

being the procrastinator that I am, I don't like to buy the first couple of generations of something. I would spend the money and buy a better HD tv as the main criteria. If it came with 3d capability fine, but my priority would be a bigger screen, higher refresh rate, etc ( not necessarily in that order).

I hear what you're saying there actually, however in this case it hadn't crossed my mind, all the excitement of getting a new tube kind of blurs our rational thinking from time to time.

I'm no expert but a good friend of mine just bought one.  It's a Samsung 55in HD 3D TV.  http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN55C7000WFXZA (http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN55C7000WFXZA)

On his there is a button/option on the remote for 3D or the standard 2D.  I will tell you this.  This is by far the best TV I have ever seen in my life.  I wish I didnt just buy my 52TV last year.   :-\

Another thing to consider is how much is available in 3D? I do not think anyone is broadcasting in 3D yet and the number of movies to purchase is probably severly limited right now.

Personally I plan to wait at least a year to not only see if this thing will take off, but also to give the makers time to work out the bugs and for the prices to drop a little.

Samsung is one of the better brands for sure( I own a 42 in LCD Samsung) , but I'm waiting like Gus till a few gen's have come and gone.  Remember VHS vs Betamax?

I'm not one to be the first at high tech products, case in-point  the  1st plasma TV  $9,900.00 at Sam's Club years back now you can get a 52 in plasma for $598.00

Just my .02 worth

I read an atricle a while ago saying that there is a good chance the Superbowl will be televised in 3D. Not sure if they are still on track for that though. Hockey is trying to get the ball rolling on televising in 3D also. Not sure about the porn industry though   :o

Any 3D tv advertisement I looked at (just looking) says that 2 pair of glasses included. Which leaves the owner to probably buying at least another 2 pair. Not sure about the US but the 3D glasses up here in Canuck country currently run you about $100 a pair.

I believe Direct TV has a dedicated 3D channel now. The glasses are $100 per pair here too..

I don't have one but I've done the research on it  :D  I'm hanging on to my samsung led lcd for the time being.

I have just bought a new 50 inch Panasonic TV, went through all the options including 3D and narrowed all the choices down to Panasonic and Samsung. Gave the final choice to my 12 year old son as he is far more knowledgeable on these things than me.  ;) :D

His suggestion was to wait another two or three years before going 3D and this is coming from a gadget freek who likes to get his hands on all new releases! Went with Panasonic 50 inch 2D/HD.

Maybe I am just a grumpy old(ish) man but I found the glasses a pain!  ;)

If you do a search on 3D TV you'll find a number of links including the "no glasses" 3D.  Personally, I'm content watching reruns in 2D.

Thanks for the input guys.

We opted out.  I ended up with a 60" Sony Bravia, which i've been relatively loyal to brand wise.

and then also a Sony 32" for above the bar.  We went a bit cheaper on this tv, as it will be "extra", something to have on when we have a party and a big game is on.  I'm sure you get the picture...  ;D

Good choice!   I do like Sony a lot and they have a very good call center if you have problems (well they did last time I called anyways)

Just bought a Samsung and the 3D is really great.  Thinks seem to hang in the middle of the room.
