I ordered some stuff from Penzeys and got a free sample or "Turkish Seasoning". It was calling for lamb.
So, off I went. The lamb comes from a farm across town. But, he didn't have much left so he cut up some of these little 'spensive things. The price was right.

I'll get back with a pic when they're done.
He also has some of the best stuffed clams around. Yes, there's actually clams in there. He gets 3 dozen to a case so I got 2/3 case from him at his price. Tree trimming parties this weekend so they'll come in handy.
This is one layer.

Time to go start dinner.
I have an urge to help put lights on Arnies Tree!!
Arnie,
You have found a "one in a lifetime" butcher.
Wish we had someone like that around here.

I completely agree. :)
I got a handy dandy bulb tester I put together a few years ago that makes it a snap in troubleshooting Christmas light strings and would be happy to also give you a hand! ;D
First of all, everyone is invited over Sunday. I'm doing a big pot of Texas Red, beans (in another pot of course), Jal cornbread, chips, salsa, guacamole and whatever else I can find in the fridge.
The lamb came out good. There's nothing like fresh lamb vs the cryovacced stuff. Steps:
- Dust up the lamb with some of the Turkish seasoning.
- Preheat the oven to 450 with a 10 inch cast iron pan in there.
- Get a stove burner on high. Put the pan on it. Add a little oil.
- The chops go for about a minute per side, then back in the oven for a few minutes.
- The result is pretty much medium-rare.
Of course, we had to have green stuff and some mixed brown/wild rice. That lamb was GOOD.

Tree trimming time?
I think I have a pic of that event at your house!

Good one Hal. I don't know how you dig this old stuff up but I'll have to be more careful in what I post. ;D ;D
Dinner looks great!
Now that green stuff I like. ;D Steamed of course. ::)
Wife put up the tree last night and Tucker already had all the ornaments he could reach on the ground playing with em.
Good thing she put the breakable ones up high.
Hope the little sh#t dont get tangled in the lights again this year.
Hey Arnie, dinner looks great.
Nice job Arnie, rare-med/rare lamb is my choice. Chops like that are $9.99/# around here, can't afford to screw it up.
OU - Yeah the green stuff was steamed. We have the same logic on the tree ornaments. A few years ago, one cat climbed the tree. We had to pull it out and it was covered in sap. What a mess.
SS - Thanks - it was very good. I went looking for the left over chop this afternoon. Wife said "Sorry, I ate it".
OH - That's a darn good price. The butcher lists these at $21.99/Lb. But, I don't pay that. The four chops were 8 bucks - still a little steep but worth it. Fresh from across town.
I've said it before - find a good local butcher, especially one that deals with local farms. Then go talkin' about smoking and cooking.
