Title: Newbee from Michigan
Post by: Smokin Paul on December 11, 2010, 04:53:22 PM
Hello all

I am Paul from Michigan and about 2 weeks ago I bought an OBS.
Tried it out on some thin steaks and all in all the were a little dry but they tasted great  ;D

Was reading about the 2 element mod with a Auber PID control and had to go for it.
All the parts are here, I hope to start on it Sunday morning.
I am going with the switch and second temp cut off.  I bought 15 ft. of high temp wire, I hope its enough.

Now time to look for some roast recipes.

Paul

Welcome to the forum Paul and good luck with your second element mod. I would guess you have been reading around a little bit and I hope you have found the  original thread  (http://www.susanminor.org/forums/showthread.php?572-Additional-Heating-Element-Modificationl)along with the one that added the  On/Off switch  (http://www.susanminor.org/forums/showthread.php?578-Additional-Heating-Element-for-OBS-with-On-Off-Control%3Cbr%20/%3El). And if you're still into reading here is the  thread (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=16299.0) of the mod I did to my OBS.

Again good luck and we like answering questions. Oh and 15 ft of high temp wire is plenty!

Hey Paul I'm in Mi. also. I own A OBS, & BESRG (big easy smoker, roaster, grill). I haven't done any mods to the OBS yet, but will be. I would suggest you think about getting either A BE, or BESRG, so you can crisp up the skin on poultry, & other meats. The SRG is also great for Grilling Steak. The folks here are great. I'm a beginner, but have smoked allot of stuff in the 2yrs I have had my OBS.
Where abouts are you in MI.. I'm in Detroit right now.

The mods all done and works great!
Now I can cook in any weather without worry.
The PID makes temp control easy. Sorry, didnt get any pics of the mod in progress I was freezing my rump roast off getting it done.
I will try and post some finished pics soon tho.
