Title: Turkey brining question?
Post by: SmokeyJoe on December 19, 2010, 04:00:54 PM
I know I've read on this forum not to brine a store brined turkey. No where on my turkey package does it say brined, however it does say "contains up to a 3% broth solution...", does this mean it has been brined?

Thanks,

if it is only 3% you should be fine. I have brined ones that were 10% enhanced with no problem.

I brined a 4% bird for Thanksgiving this year and paid a premium price for it and agree with Gus that I'm willing to go up to a 10% enhanced on the one I'll be doing for Christmas! Good Luck!  ;D

So I should be fine brining for roughly 24 hours? My solution is: one gallon water, 7/8 cup pickling salt, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 table spoon garlic powder. Turkey is a 12 pounder.

I usually brine overnight, so it is less than 24 hours, but that is me.
