id say that is a white christmas
we are supposed to get snow in N Alabam this weekend
squirt... I win we got more then you...... :o
seemore
And that kind of weather is a good thing?
I don't know Squirt. Some times enough is enough.
There are times I want to attach a snow shovel to the front of my SUV and start heading south and not stop driving until some one says what the hell is that. Then I know it's time to stop. We have had snow since the first week of November and it looks like a long winter. Oh well make the best of it. I have a hunting season going until the middle of January then start ice fishing.
Kirby
Yep, that's white one. Hope you're able to enjoy it.
That reminds me -- I sure am glad I left MI 15 years ago. Don't miss my old snow blower one bit.
Merry Christmas to you Pat.
Enjoyed that white stuff.
White stuff is moving off - finally. Probably got 5-6" here.
Now they can get the roads cleared, as we fly out to NYC tomorrow morning/Noon.........
Merry (white or not) Christmas, everyone!
White Christmas in Ill........Nothing here yet in NEPA
Merry Christmas everyone.
I think I have enough up here for everyone. ;D
QuoteAnd that kind of weather is a good thing?
You bet, problem is we only have a little dusting right now. >:(
Send some our way Pat. :)
Got a white Christmas in St. Louis also. Spent half the day out hunting in it today.
Got a White Christmas here also.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Snowed here for two days now. We got plenty of that stuff! Merry Christmas all.
After Pat finished with the snow, he sent it a little further Southeast into Kentucky where MrsKyNola and I have about 3 inches on the ground. The temp was just cold enough to snow and the concrete surfaces stayed just warm enough that I don't have to shovel the driveway or sidewalks! Perfect snowfall!
Merry Christmas everyone.
It went farther south then KY. Here is what we woke up to in N Alabama.

Going to have to shovel off the Bradley house to do some smoking today.

Merry Christmas to all
I walked out to get the paper!
Merry Christmas!

Hope you make the trip unscathed -- apparently that system is heading into the NE and expected to cause delays and cancellations fairly broadly. Travel safe and have a very Merry Christams!
Is this where I tell you what a great morning we had at the annual (7AM) Champagne and Caviar party at the beach? The big AA Christmas breakfast was about 50 yards away - we only got two "backsliders." Anyway - a beautiful sunny Hawaiian Christmas day in the low 80s. Just put the turkey in the SRG - didn't even have to put my shoes on to go out to the deck. I'll at least be kind enough not to post a picture of the weather.

But at least we can cold smoke cheese easier ;D
Looks to be a White Day-After-Christmas as well... We're under a blizzard warning here in NYC. :o
I've never experienced a Nor'easter, but that is about to change.
I'll be sure to get some pics. ;D
We are due here and about to get it... we are under the same blizzard warning as Pat.
My parents went home a day early.... today is going to be a lazy day.

Man you are soooo lucky. Nothing beats a good nor'easter. ;D
It can really pile up the snow, too bad I'm too far away to enjoy it. :(
We'll be lucky to get a couple inches of snow. >:(
MrsSTC and MIL have theater tickets for late this afternoon... Fortunately, the subway stop is just 75' from the front door of this place. 2 right turns and down the stairs.
I'm glad we flew in yesterday...
Pens, I can box some up and mail it to you if you like!
QuotePens, I can box some up and mail it to you if you like!
Thanks but you don't got a box big enough. ;D
Once it gets cranked up it can really drop a lot of snow very quickly. Just depends on the storm. It truly will feel like a white Christmas.
Be safe and stay warm. :)

Ours was the same. First in 17 years. We are excited. Went to the 11:00 pm Christmas Eve service and it had just started spitting snow. By the time we got out at just past midnight - Everything was white - Perfect. During the day Christmas, some melted, but about an hour before the time to cook fajitas, while playing bowling on my daughter's new Wii it started again. Great day, and so happy for my daughter - her first Christmas in her new house and she gets a White Christmas. BTW - them thar Wii's are FUN!!!

Second day of N Alabama snow. I think we have about 4-5 inches. Not much for you northerners but this is the most we have had on Christmas plus it is unusual for 2 days in a row. We don't have much snow removal, just some trucks for sanding. So roads are kind of slick for people not used to driving in such conditions. To top it off the wife informed me this morning that we have an emergency starting to arise. We are running low on alcoholic beverages. Two days of snow and we run into apocalyptic conditions. I think I read about this in Nostradamus --first the alcohol runs out, then what -- no meat to smoke?
I keep looking out the window for one of those St Bernard rescue dogs with the barrel of spirits under their chin, but so far none have showed up. So I guess I have to go out into the wilderness and get supplies. My daughter volunteered to go with me but I declined the help. I better go alone so there is no temptation to end up like the Donner party if I get stranded.
So off I go.

Now, I'm not saying this is in my neighbourhood, but it's relatively close by.
This is what you'd call a White Xmas !!
For those non-metric folks out there 2.5 meters equates to 8.2 feet. Sorry - no pics.
Island hill sets world snow record
With 2.5 metres in 48 hours, resort now has deepest snowpack of any hill on the planet
By John Colebourn, The Province December 26, 2010
Skiers and snowboarders are on top of the world at Mount Washington.
The Vancouver Island ski resort has been hit with so much snow, the area now has the deepest snowpack of any ski resort in the world.
"All the cars up here are buried and the lodge is buried with all the snow," said Mount Washington's Brent Curtain of the resort's Christmas Day conundrum.
The mountain near Comox had 2.5 metres of snow over a 48-hour period, now bringing the base on the slopes to a whopping 510 cm.
By comparison, Aspen in Colorado has a 168 cm base, while Mammoth in California comes close with a mid-mountain base of about 177 cm.
"It is an absolute sea of white up here," said Curtain on Saturday. "It is unbelievable."
As the storm moved through, Curtain said the freezing level remained low enough that it was only snow that hit the resort. "The freezing levels have been below the resort and we've been seeing nothing but snow," he said.
Despite the heavy amount of snow, Curtain said they hope to have the entire mountain open today.
"We expect to have the resort in full operation by Boxing Day," said Curtain of the avalanche control required to make the area safe. "
Ok - enough white!

Now the wind is screaming, and I just saw a flash and heard thunder... My gawd.
Took the subway into Manhattan to (attempt to) meet MrsSTC and MIL for a sandwich, then head to church.
Caught the wrong train, so I had to backtrack and wait for another train - that never arrived.
So much for eating... I ventured up and outside into the maelstrom and went to the Church to wait for them.
(they did save me a couple 1/2 turkey sandwiches to eat)
Then I had to escort them the 5 blocks to the theater they have tickets to tonight. (Kelsey Grammer is in it - so they really didn't want to miss it) That turned into a 20 minute slog. I got them inside and headed back to the subway stop carrying their shopping bags - full of snow by this time.
Train pulls up and I hop on. Smooth sailing...
[wrong]
I didn't think that a blizzard could affect underground trains - but it can. The 20 minute ride back to the rental house took about an hour. And I was starving..
I dried the sammies off with a paper towel, and just had a quick dinner with the first of many beers.
My coat/had/scarf are drip-drying downstairs...
Ok - I'm officially ready for spring now! :D
After the wind dies down tomorrow, I'll venture out with my good camera and get some pics. The dump trucks here are all outfitted with chains and snow blades - they are doing what they can.. (and losing)
1" here and it's show time.
Maybe if you stand out there long enough you can get on that show "Cash Cab" ;D ;D ;D ;D
What I just read said y'all might get TWO FEET in New York City...
Just enough for a "winter wonderland" Christmas in Kentucky...

Probably 4 inches (?)
About the same in central Illinois.
No problems driving back today...
Of course that was probably due to the EXTRA WEIGHT in the bus...
I haul down 120# of pellets from you to Larry...
And he loads me up with 120# of different pellets to haul back to you...
Are y'all just messin' with me, or WHAT? ::)
I know that deck! You think she's run out and ripped down those decorations and put up new ones yet? ;D ;D
Yeah, we're just funnin' with ya. Repackaging 120 pounds of rabbit feed and having you haul it to/from...

My addesrs from my 12 years living in "snow country",
- the required early morning snow blowing of the driveway at ~ 5 am,
- having to dig my car out after work so I can go home,
- the regular plowing closed of my driveway by the daily snow plow, so when I get home from work I have to shovel the driveway open again,
- fenderbergs in the garage. that turn into salt and mud pools,
- cold puddles in the "mud room", just waiting to soak sock-covered feet,
- all outer wear soggy most of the time,
...
there are more, but isn't that enough ?
I'll take the tropics, any day! ;D
The sun is out today! Still looks pretty wicked.. I'll venture out later w/ the camera.
Mother Nature is such a wimp, she would not DARE to send snow our way.
There think that will help? :)
20" reported in Central Park. 18" out here in Brooklyn...
Come get it!
I didn't take this picture, but this is what it looked like last night.

Squirt - How's the deli across the street?
Caught this video (http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-533804?hpt=T1) on CNN, thought of you STC. It's from NJ, about 40 miles south of you.
Tip -- be sure and go for full screen so you can see the clock.

Nothing special. It's more of a convenience store. (and a very very expensive one at that... 10 bucks cash for a 6-pack of beer) They do have a sandwich counter.
Wowsers...
I guess I won't complain about the 40F and 25+MPH winds yesterday. It made driving the RV and the Sprinter a little treacherous.
and those gas stations that pull out the "nozzle lock" - don't they know I need to be able to pump $125.00 of gas into the RV without freezing to death?
I have a tennis ball for just such an emergency.
Good Gawwwwwwwwwwwwd!!!!
That looks VICIOUS!
That's a LOT of snow.
Great video too
Am I the only guy that noticed that STC finally ventures out at 3 in the afternoon and the first thing that happens is he obviously attracted a police car's attention? :D :D :D :D
There's definitely a difference in opinion about snow. My 10 yo nephew and his family arrived last night about 6:00. From near San Antonio and has never seen snow more than a dusting. We had less than 1/2 of our Christmas Inch left, but the first thing he did was get down and make a snow angel and a tiny snowman - both a first for him. Fun to see his excitement!
Cool video and what a mess!
