Title: Deadliest Catch!
Post by: TestRocket on December 29, 2010, 02:16:19 PM
The story is my sister in Willow AK sent my Mom a Christmas present of five lbs of Alaskan Red King Crab. I told my Mom to please save me one leg so I could try it next time we head to L.A. (lower Alabama).

Well the day before Christmas my sister and I talked to say Merry Christmas and we talked about the Alaskan King Crabs and I told her what a fan I am of the show Deadliest Catch and what a shock it was to see the passing of Captain Phil Harris. RIP

Being in Alaska the show and passing of Captain Phil Harris was a big thing to them too and my Sis caught on it was a big thing to me and she sent me a little something. More like a big something and I love it!

So today UPS rang the door bell and I got a very nice surprise!

I got a Deadliest Catch T-Shirt, season 6 DVD set and my own five lbs of Alaskan Red King Crab legs and claws. I know what I'm having for dinner!

These legs are at least 14 inches long:

Yummy!

Looks great!  I'm a big fan of Deadliest Catch as well - never miss an episode.  Cool to see "New Sagaya" on the box - it is a great Asian market in Anchorage that has one of the best fish counters in the state.  A "must visit" if you're ever in the area.  Try their Poki...

I miss Capt Phil :(

Super nice gift TestRocket. Ann and I shop at Sagaya all the time. They usually have the best seafood in town. Geez your sister lives about 45 minutes from us from the sound of it. I used to have a place on Nancy Lake just a few minutes from her.

I boiled water in a large pot seasoned with crab boil (the bag), two beers and two lemons and when it came to a hard boil I turned off the eye and put the crabs in and placed the lid on and let the crabs reheat for about 10-15 minutes. We had red potatoes and garlic bread as sides. Oh yea clarified butter too! Dang good it was!

This was all that's left. Note the upper right is crab meat picked to eat tomorrow:

You know Sonny my Sis can't eat any seafood from the lower 48. But there is something about the amount of iodine being real low in the cold water crab from the Bering Sea and she can eat the king crab.

Ok, Tell her to send me some! ;D and a t-shirt too. ;D

Kinda ironic, but I can eat shrimp, oysters, etc. Just not crab.

I like all shell fish but do you know what it cost to get that here :o.    I like to watch that show too.    IMO those guys are nuts to be out there in that weather.

TR...the crab out of AK is some of the best I have had. I'd be sending a big thank you note...haha. As far as Capt Phil goes...check out this pic I was able to snap when I was up there working last year. Later that night, I ended up drinking with some of his crew. Was a good time.

ok...well apparently I can't attach pictures, or it is user error. But I have a cool pic I can share with you once I am able to attach pics.

What great gifts!
Has anyone heard the status on season this new year?  Last I heard was the Time Bandit and Northwestern was out.  Sad if that was true.  With Phil's passing that took enough out of one of my favorite shows!

I've looked around and the rumors are rampant about season 7. First Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand and Sig Hanson were out and it looks like things may have worked out for the Hillstrands and I can't find anything about Sig.

If there is going to be a season 7 they should have started filming already because the king crab season runs mid-October to mid- December and the opilio season is January to March.

If anyone knows someone in Dutch Harbor it should be easy to find out if the Discovery Channel was up there during the mid-October to mid- December time frame.

I have a feeling that if things were worked out with the Hillstrand's then Sig is probably back in.  I heard he was out to show support for John and Andy.  Without those guys I don't think there is going to be much of a show.  The captain of the Kodiak (Wild Bill) did add to the show last season but without the Time Bandit and the Northwestern I am afraid it will lack my interest as it has the last 6 seasons.

It also looks like the Hillstrands may have something coming to air of there own!      ;)

I think that was the issue with them.  They were to have a show called "Hillstranded" and they backed out or something and then the Discovery Channel Sued them for a few Million.  Personally I love those guys and hope they do go through with the new show.

TR, let's see if this works. I use Picasa, but I think i got it fingered out. Doesn't appear as if the image is previewing as it should, but the link is there...you'll get the idea until I get more familiar with it.

What a great pic.  A guy I work with sister and brother in law are HUGE fans of the show.  When they got married they were thinking of going to Alaska and get married on the Time Bandit.  Apparently the Hillstrand's wanted $5000 to do it so and they decided not too since they would have a bunch of other expenses on top of that.  I guess that would have been a memorable wedding if they went through with it.
