Iowa House declares Bacon Day Feb. 26
The Iowa House has declared Feb. 26 Bacon Day in honor of "nature's perfect food."
Here's the full text of House Resolution 15:
A Resolution recognizing February 26, 2011, as Iowa Bacon Day.
WHEREAS, the people of Maine have lobster, the people of Idaho grow great potatoes, and the folks of Texas make great chili, we Iowans have bacon —— nature's perfect food; and
WHEREAS, whether plain or apple-wood smoked, whether store-bought or artisan-made, bacon is a meat for any meal; and
WHEREAS, as America's top pork producer, Iowa stands tall as the nation's source of high-quality bacon; and
WHEREAS, the 4th annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival is set for Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Des Moines;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That the House of Representatives recognizes February 26, 2011, as Iowa Bacon Day and invites all Iowans to take part in the festival and to celebrate bacon.

We are the nutmeg state but that's not very exciting. Arnie do you know if it even has anything to do with the spice? we have nothing

Join in the festivities and Enjoy Some of "Natures Perfect Food" BACON!! Having Bacon for breakfast.
BACON BACON BACON BACON BACON!!!!! ;D
Ours must be beef, maybe pork, might be corn or soy beans, heck might be alfalfa. ::)
I fried up some for you ,and was happy to do so ;D
O.K. So to honor this day even though I did not know about before hand, must be my Iowa roots coming through.
The BSLT (Bacon-Steak, Lettuce, and Tomato) Sammy.
Got to start with home made Cold Apple Wood Smoked Bacon Steaks. I call these steaks due to the meat to fat ratio.

Oven fried. I use the put the bacon into the oven, turn the oven on to 400 deg, then a few mintues after it finishes getting to 400 deg, it is done depending on how crisp you like it. For the BSLT, I didn't go as crispy as I normally do.

I like a bit of Miracle Whip Salad Dressing instead of Mayo. Salad Dressing has more flavor for me in sandwiches.

Now the tomatoes. Only had some Romas.

So I was limited on my leafy choice and had some spinach and red butter for the lettuce part.

Now don't scrimp on the star of the show. Pile it high.

Had a few pieces of potatoes left over from the 7 bone chuck roast last night so I made a potato cake and fried it on a cast iron skillet and a little bacon cream.

Aaaaahhhh YUM ;D
Hmmm...wonder if my cousin's husband voted "Aye" or "Nay". lol 99% sure he voted "Aye".
Boy, that looks GOOD Giz!
Looks great! Nice presentation on the plate...like at a fine restaurant. I am also a "Miracle Whip" user so you are not alone ;) My wife hates Miracle Whip and her family will not even keep a jar for me at their house for when I visit cause I really do not care for mayo :'(
Love that Tangy Zip! ;)

Kind of shows you're status in that family eh. We use both but for most things I am a Mayo guy.

Same here except for the family thing. No in-laws.
Giz I have to say "YOU ARE THE MAN". That is what dreams are all about buddy. Ahhhhhhhh :D
Giz, that BSGST (BaconSteak, GreenStuff, Tomato) is just Beautiful.
BLT's are (used to be) one of my favorites.
We had a municipal airport that made a liller BLT that I would have to
have a cple times a week.
Mayo or Miracle Whip?
Like them both but I am the only person in the house now that eats it
and I have been buying the olive oil mayo.
I do like miracle whip with french fries instead of catsup.
Also (seems kinda silly) but I like lettuce on one side with the tomatos
in the middle and Bacon on the other side.
