Title: Stuff in bags, stuff in boxes..
Post by: squirtthecat on March 05, 2011, 06:47:08 PM

We're having an 'Illinois Products Expo' this weekend in Springpatch, so MrsSTC and I popped in to check it out.

Turns out, it was a madhouse of people.   Everyone was giving out 'samples', and the weather was lousy.  Not a good combination.

Anyway, I bought a few goodies to try out.  (and picked up some brochures and business cards to check out later)

This place caught my eye..

They have a ton of stuff on their website that they didn't pack down to Springfield to show off...  I'll be perusing it more tomorrow.

Now, to the box.    I got a new cookbook today.

'Book' doesn't do it justice...   More like a 'tome'.

~14 pounds..

I thought I said that (but my memory isn't what it used to be and I'll steal credit wherever I can).

I still can't buy the damn book - SWMBO says my last birthday present hasn't gotten here yet.

Yeah, they were $4/pouch at the expo.  I was a bit disappointed when I saw the prices online.

Luckily they hadn't shipped my order yet (I only sent it in this morning) so I could cancel and reorder.  On the page where it calls for a coupon code, try P4U7L9E.  It should give you an extra 10% off.  My total came to $30.76 with tax and free shipping.

I thought everybody had that book???

It's pretty cool watching him and Paul Gates cooking everyday on the 5:00 news.

Good deal for you, my book was delivered a few days ago so they won't give me anything back, I called already, but it is still worth the money

I tend to DROOL a bit when I hear "shrimp" and "black-eyed peas" in the same sentence.
Good thing they didn't mention cornbread.

I've been wanting that book ever since Larry posted about it...
But, I'm so (way-way-way-just-shoot-me) OVER-BUDGET on this kitchen thing...

Nevertheless...  For 30 bucks w/ Coupon Code + Free Shipping, well...
Ya ain't gotta twist my arm CLEAN OFF!!!
(Thanks for the CC, KH!)

B&N is kind of slowwwwww...

Mine is supposed to finally ship today --  Amazon would have had it on my porch already...
But, for $30, I have some patience  ;D

(and then, of course, there's that whole "Hey dummy!  You don't even have a KTCHEN!" thing anyway...)

Possibly slow but also confused.  I called to cancel the $40 one that hadn't shipped and reordered at the lower price per their instructions.  Turns out they shipped both so now I have two coming and am supposed to refuse delivery of the more expensive one.

That's crazy..

Do turtles have x-ray vision that can read through a large sealed box?

No, but I have the tracking number which is printed on the label.  Unfortunately they delivered both this evening while we were out.  Nobody told me that it was so heavy that I'd need a gym membership to get in good enough shape to lift it.  Awesome book - almost wish I needed two of them.

What the heck do you think you're doing riding your John Deere and trailer in the house?
Just moving my BOOK, dear.

Well, I got some help and put it on the coffee table where I can just flip pages.  I've spent a good chunk of the day reading and am almost to the part where they start cooking (about p.126).  I have no idea where this thing is going to live but I'm leaning on putting it on an antique stand-up school desk that sits just outside the kitchen.  That way I won't have to walk too far when using it (because it's certainly not going in the kitchen itself - I wouldn't have any prep space left and I'd spill stuff all over it).  Hmmm - better start lobbying for the CD-ROM.

As big as that book is I'll bet the CD-ROM is the size of a 33 1/3 record album! :D :D :D
