Just heard that a tornado CLOBBERED Lambert (airport) in STL...
Like ripped the roof off the main terminal and tossed parked cars in short-term to Illinois.
Supposed to be there Tuesday -- KREWE DU SMOKE trip...
Uhhhh Ohhh...
Lambert is closed. So is I-270.
Some flights are being diverted here to Springpatch...
Get your butt down here.
We'll see what happens... I'm just glad I wasn't on the shuttle bus that got HURLED...
Get in the car with Mr and Mrs stc tomorrow and get your butt down here. Don't make me pull this car over! ;)
I have to work Monday...
Sounds like the MAIN terminal had the serious damage (SWA has their own terminal -- but it's just next door)
I'm sure they'll have crews out there 24/7, but it sounds like it's heck of a mess.
Watching the local news now....
Yes, the St. Louis area is a major mess right now. I feel sorry for the people here who are flying somewhere this holiday weekend. Not only is the STL airport closed for the rest of today but they say it will probably remain closed for much of Saturday. The ripple effect will cause problems in other areas with connecting flights and all this will not be back to normal for many days.
The forecast calls for rain, lots of it, for 6 days in a row. So much for any outdoor Easter plans. At least it is good for the grass seed I planted yesterday...if it doesn't all wash away.
We stopped south of Richmond VA to sleep for the night. I actually got 10 hrs of sleep. That's what it's like? Getting ready to go to NC, Close to CT cuz I can taste it.

Southwest says they are trying to resume flights tonight. Their terminal is about 1/2 a mile away from the damaged one. Whether the airport itself (and control tower, roads, equipment) are clear is a different story.
I'm thinking you'll be Ok by Tuesday.

Sounds like they expect to be flying by then ---I hope it ain't "wishful thinking"
I read the control tower is operational and one runway is clear (?)
From SWA:
Southwest Airlines has temporarily suspended operations at St. Louis (STL) through 4p.m. CT on Saturday, April 23 due to damage sustained during Friday evening's severe weather. Our resumption of service is contingent upon the airport's ability to support flight activity.
For specific flight information, please check Flight Status Information.
Customers holding reservations for travel to/from STL all day Saturday, April 23 or Sunday, April 24 are eligible to reschedule their flight in accordance with our accommodation procedures.
Just read that they had a few flights arrive last night, and the first departures are happening this morning.
The first were Southwest Airlines flight to Vegas and Florida. :D
In fact, all Southwest flights are already taking off, or scheduled 'on time' today.
Good luck Hal, Hope you make it out. I wish I was going too.
The TV news looks encouraging for your departure. You deserve to get out of the kitchen for a while. Have a good trip and Happy Easter.
Yeah, looks like it shouldn't be any problem now ;D
