Title: Just ordered a convection fan for the OBS
Post by: muebe on May 03, 2011, 10:30:58 AM
I have been brainstorming what to use for a circulation fan mod in the OBS. I did make a fan with a used motor I have but found that it was too fast and slowing it down would cause overheating. I checked out e-bay and found a used convection fan for a oven. With it's low profile the fan can be mounted just about flush with the interior wall. I plan on installing it on the left side of the OBS and will be controlled by the PID using the smoke controller. I will use a voltage controller to regulate it's speed. The fan will be located inside the cabinet and the motor outside of the cabinet in a housing. The fan was $25 plus shipping so not a huge investment. I am going to extend the motor stem so that it makes it to the interior of the cabinet through a small hole just slightly larger then the stem. Then use metal spacers to adjust the distance the motor is mounted. My only problem will be deciding how high or low to mount the fan....

How big is that blade?

Looks the size of a basketball in the picture.  ;D

What's the airflow rating of that going to be?  You don't want things blowing around in the chamber like a tornado.   :)

The Dayton fan kit I have has a 2.5" fan with a 45 cfm rating.  A 2" blade would have given it a 30 cfm.

I plan on controlling the fan speed using a voltage regulator. The fan blades are large because it is a convection fan for a residential range. I will have to control how fast this thing blows air for sure. But if I have to use a smaller fan blade I will ;D
