Could someone please explain the advantages/disadvantages of a pellet pooper compared to a Bradley?
I've never had anything to do with a pellet pooper.
Thanks
Jim O
Bradley
Low temps, adjustable racks, easy to do sausage, cheese, abt, butts, briskets, nuts, pretty portable. Kinda like a smoky convection oven. Few mods which makes it a better smoke than when you took it from the box. Digital only program for 9 hrs 40 mins.
Pellet pooper
Low to high temps, authentic bbq flavor, 20 pound hopper for pellets, wide variety of pellet woods, induction fan blows into fire pot. Depending on which MAK'E of pellet grill you get you can do the same as the Bradley.
I will let other chime in.
On the average, I can get a stronger smoke flavor with my OBS vs my Pellet Pooper. Not that my MAK doesn't provide an adequate amount of smoke flavor mind you ;D. Also, it's hard to express in words but so many items just taste better when they're cooked with wood. Yet there are certain things like Jerky and Smoked Salmon that I will always be using my OBS for.
Another factor is that the Bradley Smoker does not create a smoke ring. Not to insult anyone but here is a good definition of a smoke ring:
In the world of barbecue the smoke ring is one of the most sought after properties of smoked meats. It is believed to show that you have done a good job and properly low and slow smoked the meat in question. Is particularly prized in smoked brisket. So what is it?
A smoke ring is a pink discoloration of meat just under the surface crust (called bark). It can be just a thin line of pink or a rather thick layer. A good smoke ring is around 1/4 inch in thickness. The smoke rings is caused by nitric acid building up in the surface of meat, absorbed from the surface. This nitric acid is formed when nitrogen dioxide from wood combustion in smoke mixes with water in the meat. Basically it is a chemical reaction between the smoke and the meat.
The Bradley does not have wood combustion. The heating element allows the Bisquettes to create smoke by smoldering but never actually burn.
As NePasSmoker said, "I will let others chime in"
I have had my OBS for almost 2 years and love it. I use it mostly for pork butt, canadian bacon, full chickens, turkeys and ribs. Also use it to cold smoke cheese.
I have had a Traeger for 2 weeks now. It is great for doing tri-tip something I would not do in my OBS. Simple to smoke for a while and then finish it at a higher temperature. Meats that don't need low and slow but you would like to smoke for a while work great in a pellet pooper. I have done that with steaks, pork chops, chicken thighs so far and love the taste better than what my gas grill did. You also dont have to worry about flare ups in the pellet pooper.
If you can do it, go with a Bradley and a pellet pooper. They are both good and different tools for the backyard enthusiast. If you could only pick one, I would probably go with a pellet pooper since it can do a wider range of things.

hey Rick have you considered using those pellets in that smoke generator I sent you? I bet those babies would crank out the smoke.

Yeah they did big time. Only problem is the pellets seem to have a tad more moisture.
I'll throw my 2 cents in since I have both. My Bradley is great for large cuts like pork butt and brisket. It creates a great bark (no smoke ring) and a rich smoke flavor. For doing ribs, nothing beats a pellet pooper. As a matter of fact, I asked Mom what she wanted for Mother's day and she said, smoke some of those baby back ribs!! Looks like the Traeger is getting fired up Sunday morning :-)
Bottom line, if you enjoy smoking food, get both and you'll soon discover which one you prefer for specific tasks.

If the Boss said ok then go with the Boss
MAK 1 or 2 Star both with the Pellet Boss controller. You will have American made grill from top to bottom. Not one that has out sourced parts from the other place.
I have a Bradley and a Treager pellet pooper. What one of them doesnt do well the other does amazing. I dont think I could do without both now.
I baked buns on the Green Mountain this morning and pizza last night just a couple ideas ;D
