Do you soak these things befor you use them or??? We made some beef sticks yesterday with 22mm collagen casings, they would not fit over the sasuage making attachment of my meat grinder very well and length was all over the place but they smoked up great. So will it help if I soak these things or do I just get bigger casings or is my grinder the wrong tool for doing this?

collagen casings don't have to be soaked but I have seen where people have soaked them. I don't think thats going to help out on your stuffer tube size though
A stuffer would do a much faster job stuffing the casings but if your just getting started and money is a factor you might want to get a stuffing tube more like this one.

It's a vicious cycle!
You'll start with a 5 pound hand cranked LEM, and end up with a HydroElectric powered Kirby Cannon.. :D
The stuffer tube on your grinder looks to be tapered. If so thats why the casings will not go all the way back. Soaking will just split them when it get tight on the tube.

Next thing you know you will be cleaning up sausage and casings on the other side of the kitchen. They got there in a millisecond because you wasn't paying attention when you cranked open the valve on that Kirby Cannon. Or cleaning up 3 gallons of water off the floor because you had the drill pump on backwards. Been there DONE ONE of those. Then calling a friend saying " You aint gonna believe what I just did!!"

I did something very similar with a half-full KC...so only 1-1/2 gallons of water poured out. Fortunately I was outside when it happened.
Operator error.... ;)
OK, where do I get a Kirby Cannon and how much do I need to lie to the wife about how much I paid for it ;D. I have always been a "more power" kind of guy :D
I had a sticker made up for my race car that says
"My biggest fear is that I die and my wife sells all my race car stuff for what I told her I paid for it" ;D
Just give pikeman_95 (Kirby) a PM
He will fix you up
I use a kitchen aid mostly it also has that taper on the small tube. I do seperate or wet casings. try to put casings on as they come and break off at end of tube. I get between 6-8 ft long that way.

I think I will just go with the KC and avoid the middle steps. THe wife says she won't go near it and I diden't even tell her about the water all over the kitchen incedent ;D
