Title: This weekend will be my last cook/smoke for a long time
Post by: TMB on May 17, 2011, 01:30:26 PM
On Tuesday the 24th May I will have surgery on my rt thumb, this means no use of it for a long time.  I'll be out of work for almost 6 months according to the doctor.

I'll still be around the forum but no cooking     Now if Kimmie will listen I can teach her how to cook with the SRG, TBE and the Bradley!

TestRocket, GusRobin  y'all keep an eye out I will be running the roads looking for great places to eat.    Hey I can't just sit at home for that long!        I'll PM you guys and let you know when I'll be free for lunch!   ;)

Sounds like its time to learn how to cook with your left hand.  ;D

I wont talk about all the other things (that you dont have a choice) you will need to learn how to use your left hand doing.  ::)  ;)

Had 3 shoulder surgeries.  >:(

Take care Tommy and good luck with your surgery! My wife uses my TBE to cook chicken and can make a mean steak so I would imagine Kimmie could handle it ;D

Good luck with the surgery. I'm trying to avoid it myself. Going in for a EMG monday to see how bad the carpal tunnel is. At least that is what they think it is. But even with surgery I would hope to be back to work in a month.  ??? I'm sure you will figure a way to play with some toys using only one hand.  :)

Carpal tunnel is easy I have had it done twice on the rt hand and 1 time on the left but it needs it again.  This time there going to add cartilage to the joint and then keep me from doing anything for months,  :'(

Good luck Tommy. I had a fractured dislocation of the left ankle and fracture the fibula and tibula of my left lower leg and damged the knee also. I was on crutches for 9 months with no weight on the ankle at all. After that I started rehab for 7 months. This happened while I was working and living on a cattle ranch. I came home from the hospital after 6 days and two days later I was on my three wheeled atv. I figured out how to get it started cause it was a 2 stroke race model with a kick starter. I got it going and climbed on with my crutches under my arm and away I went. I was gone more than when I wasn't broken. You will figure out how to beat the boredom.

It's a shame you couldn't reschedule during the winter months. Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

Like I said on the phone "Quit Whining and get to cooking something while you still can stock pile some good eats!" I give you a month before you start having serious withdrawals and have to force yourself to cook something. You gotta wipe your ..... with your left hand so if you can figure that out you should be able to cook my friend!!

Good luck with the surgery Tommy.

I know that staying away from your toys will hurt you beaucoup more than the surgery.

Wish you a speedy recovery

Good luck with the surgery Tommy, the Doc told me about a month ago that my shoulder would take 2-3 years to heal, and no Fly Fishing while it is healing. Well after a few months of no fishing I went out last week and started to teach myself how to cast with my left hand. With my 5 wt by the end of the day I was laying out 60 feet of line, then that night the wife want to go throw darts so we walked up to the local pup and I tried to throw with my right hand, no go the pain was too much, I switch to my left hand and won two games of darts. The human body is real adaptable, I figure that in two weeks you will be back at it with Kimmie's help cooking up a storm. Hey if an over weight 54 year old can learn to fly fish left handed anything is possible. ;D

I just had back surgery on April sixth, Never had surgery in my life (im 45), I was expected to have 2-1/2 months off from work and I went back in three weeks with a twenty pound limit (keys weigh about a ounce ;) ). I was really scared to have surgery but I am so glad I did, it has improved my life 110%. You will be fine Tommy!! I will put you on my prayer list if that is ok :)

Please do!   I have had 3 other surgeries in the last 5 years so this is nothing new.  Heck even the CEO of the center I'm going to waves my deductibles since I seem to be a regular there  ;) ;)  :-\ :-\

Anyway thank's for the adding me to the list and remember I'm only 45 as well..  I turned 40 in the hospital and 41 on the same floor one year later!
