Title: OK Twisters
Post by: DarqMan on May 26, 2011, 06:17:24 PM
Tuesday at 4pm work said, GO HOME!

I hopped in the car and drove home as fast as possible, the road were jammed for a Tuesday afternoon as everyone else was doing the same.

I got here about 4:45pm and turned on the TV.  Damn! The twister that had been on the ground for miles and just hit Piedmont was headed directly for me.

I opened the sliding door to the backyard and figured I'd stay in the house until Gary England tells me to take cover.  THEN, I hear a helicopter outside.  What?  A helicopter in this storm?  I run outside and look in the air, it's Ranger 9 from channel 9's weather team and I don't think they were looking at my awesome cookers!

I went back inside to follow the twister and BOOM! Power goes out.... Hummmmmm... Ranger 9 directly over my house and no power.... hummm...

First thing I did was grab a couple beers, two flashlights, a folding chair, cell phone and then underground I went.  I stayed in the shelter about 30 minutes until the winds and rain died down and then came out.  I figured if I ran to town and grabbed food when I got back the power would be back on.  While eating and watching the tube the new showed the twister had passed on the ground 4 miles west and 1 mile north of me.  A little closer than I'd like but far enough away to be safe.

Man, it's fun living in Oklahoma!

Darq...geez...glad you are ok...tornados are scary sheet...you get hardly any warning...

And Beefman...I'll take a hurricane any day over an earthquake or tornado...that no warning thing is really quite frightening...at least you can run from a hurricane...and ps...I've only lived in Cali for about 10 years and we've had about 5 quakes...you must be living in the "good" zone... ;D

Ditto!

You better go check your roof, last time I had one that close it took half my shingles off.
