Title: 280F is the cabinet limit
Post by: muebe on June 02, 2011, 08:02:19 AM
I have seen some posts discussions about the maximum allowable cabinet temp on the OBS. Well I have verified that it is definently 280F. As soon as my cabinet got to 280F the power light for my element shut off(PID still indicating heating). Then when the cabinet cooled 20 degrees the light re-engaged. So I would suggest not setting the PID higher than 260F or it could result in big temp swings due to tripping of the switch. Also continuous tripping of the cabinet over-heat safety switch might not be a good thing eitgher. So those looking for higher cabinet temps will either need to by-pass the safety switch or install a higher rated temp switch ;D

Good to know but in my mind it's better to be safe and not go to 280F!

If you went past 280 you could crisp the skin of a chicken.

couldn't you just do a quick transfer to a broiler for the last 5 minutes of cooking?
