I'm moving to Winnipeg at the end of August and was wondering if anyone here lives there and could recommend a good butcher, sausage/cured meats deli, sausage and smoking supplies. More specifically, a meat shop who does there own in house sausage and cured meats.
I appreciate any advice.

Seems Winnipeg ain't so popular with the smokers. I guess you will be our Windy pig connection soon. That was my turnaround point when I did long haul. Well actually it was Steinbach. Good luck in the geographical center of canada which is just south of Winnipeg on the bypass route marked by a big sign stating the fact.
I could thing of many nicer places than Winnipeg........although they do have an NHL team now.
You will be mid point to most of the suppliers.

the north end will be your friend .lots of delis /butchers up there.gimleys has good fish and just down the street there is a butcher packer smokeshack that does some tasty stuff .both these places can set you in the right direction for supplies if they cant get you stuff direct.lots of other really good delis in the north end.i can get you addressees if you need.

yeah i figured the north end was the place to go, google maps shows a lot of deli/meat shops up that way. I'll just have to make a day of sampling each location, which I'm actually looking forward to.
The move is temporary, 18 months while my wife does some educational upgrading. Afterwards we are heading to BC, to a small 10 acre chunk, lakeside cabin. Fishing 8 months of the year, smokin for 12.
Winnipeg is a short term sacrifice for long term gain.

As a kid you grow up and form preconceived ideas as to what places you hear about all your life. My idea of everything east of the Rockies was a flat barren land full of wheatfields. When I started longhaul from Vancouver to Steinbach for Penner International all those ideas went away. I really liked the prairies, they are very diverse and beautiful. As for the flat, yes there is flat but there is also alot of contrast to the land. One thing I like is the amount of lakes. I always wanted a lakeside cabin and here in B.C. the values are to high. In Manitoba there a lot of lakes dotted all over and the prices aren't threw the roof. Of course when I was young and dumb and fresh of the fishboats with a load of cash I could have bought 6 wilderness lakeside lots for $1500. each but didn't cause they were to hard to get to. Now there is a road right to the lots and you couldn't get those lots for less than $150,000. So Louie, where is your cabin here in B.C.? You are a lucky guy.
Hey Quarlow, check out the link, BC only properties, some on the grid and some off. This sight kept me going for a few years after moving from BC. A warning though, it may become addicting.
