Title: Got a new book in
Post by: Drac on June 22, 2011, 06:06:06 PM
When ordering the slicer, which I ordered from Amazon since I get free 2 day shipping, I took the time to get a couple new cookbooks.

One I've been looking at for a while since it is very much at the heart of a lot of what we do -

Salted - A Manifesto on the World's Most Essential Mineral
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1580082629 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1580082629)

Very nice read.  About a third of the book is an encyclopedia on different salts.  Got a nice section on the fad of cooking on salt blocks.  Been thinking of doing the bacon and eggs fried on a salt block.

Granted I doubt most people are going to be as interested in the history and chemistry as I am which is about a quarter of the book.  The author does have his opinions though when it comes to production or non-artisan salts.  Doesn't miss a chance to slap them down.

The book does look interesting. I will have to place that on my list.
