I had to take Cassius, my 7 year old boxer, to the vet today because has been sick for a few days and they told me he has pancreatitis. Has anyone delt with this with any of their dogs?
Really sorry for your dog, here is a link that may answer some of your questions..

Sounds like some meds, a change in diet and fluids are in order... Do what your vet tells you!

Hes a beautiful boxer.

I've got no idea's or help for you Snelly, except to say as a dog lover I wish only the best for you and Cassius!
I'm sorry to hear about your dog Snelly. :(
I've never had a dog affected by this but when I worked for a vet many years ago I had seen a few dogs with it.
Some of the times it was brought on by a big change in diet with a large amount of fat added at once.
Like one dog had eaten an entire one pound package of bacon and came down with it as a result.

Hows Cassius doing?
I got Cassius home from the vet last night and he is doing better. Unfortunately the vet thinks that there is some issue going on with his heart. He had a lot of fluid built up around his heart and lungs so they did an ekg on his heart and we should get the results back tomorrow. Cassius is 7.5 years old and boxers are prone to heart disease so he is at risk.... It is good to have my boy home and it looks like the pancreatitis is behind us. Now I just got to keep my hopes up that the ekg comes back normal... :-\ :-\ :-\
Thanks for all the well wishes, those of us that have and love dogs really know how special they are in our lives. Cassius is part of my family and has been through a lot with me. I used him as an excuse to get this girls number one time and that girl turned out to become my wife, have my son 2+ years ago and now recently have my daughter... So he's pretty special to me. :'(
I know how you feel when it comes to your dogs.
Its good to here Cassius is home, Im sure hes much more happier there.
Thanks for the update.
Good to hear the boy is back home Snelly. Wish the best for you all. Thanks for keeping us posted. :)
Good to hear the ole boy is home.
Well, the EKG came back clean!!!!! Thats the good news. The bad, well we still dont know what was causing the fluid build-up around his heart and lungs.... So I have to get some more meds and he get re-checked in one month...

Thats great news.
Some times a high fever will cause fluid build up.

The vet suggested going to see a specialist and getting an ekg ultrasound but I think I'm going to wait and make that decision after his 1 month re-check.

If I were in your shoes I would wait till after the re-check.
Thanks for the advice OU. The wife and I were thinking the same thing.
