Before the Wright Brothers built & flew a fixed wing plane, other inventors tried to emulate the wings of birds in the pursuit for flight. It took until 2011 to build a plane that flies like a bird (at least a model). Smart Germans. Check it out!

Wow that is so cool. The difficulties of that are so massive to get the motion for flight correct.
