Title: smoke generator
Post by: mrmoe on August 17, 2011, 10:59:40 AM
.....how long should it take for a smoke generator to generate smoke? I've been trying to season my new smoker (arrived the other day) and so far, all it will do is cycle unburned wood discs into the water pan.

Reach in there and touch the burner plate with your finger and see if it's hot  ;D. Kidding. You might have a loose connection somewhere or maybe a defective plate. That thing starts getting hot pretty quick. More learned folks will be by later.

I normally preheat mine for about 20 minutes, then start with the pucks.

Sounds like time for a call to customer service.

Unplug all of the plugs and replug them and make sure everything is hooked up the proper way..make sure everything is good and tight...

Finally set the smoke generator up on my kitchen counter to see if I could fill the kitchen with smoke - NOT.....the heat element got warm, but never hot enough to get a disc smoking.....not even hot enough to sizzle a drop of water.....customer assistance couldn't have been nicer and will be sending out a new burner in the morning.

I like that ...........

You will fit in just fine here.

I had a siilar problem when I first got my smoker. I gotta say they have an outstanding customer service center. I dealt with both the U.S. and Canada centers and both were great!

A new burner for the smoke generator came in the mail yesterday. I was reluctant to take the generator apart until the new part arrived; when I did (last night), I found that the burner was not properly plugged in. I plugged it in and reassembled the generator and it took about 7 minutes to start filling my kitchen with smoke. The smoker is outside in the driveway in the middle of its "seasoning" process!

Nice. I guess you'll have a spare now. Maybe a member that might need one with no warranty can get a sweet deal.
