Title: Also new and going to be trying homemade cold smoker - ques re DBS
Post by: cjpoco on August 25, 2011, 12:55:29 PM
The info here is great.  I have seen a number of comments on those who have a digital smoker and that you need a longer cable to plug into the cabinet.  Is this because the DBS won't work without that connection (ie: only using the smoker controls, not temperature controls) or is it to just monitor the smoker temperature?  If it's just to monitor then using a Maverick would do the trick?
thanks

I believe it is a safety feature, so you can not run the smoker without the sensor hooked up and working.

You can also make a Cold Smoker Bypass (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=9164.msg97088#msg97088) instead of a longer cable.

If you just turn the smoke generator on and the sensor plug is not plugged

into the cabinet or you are not using the plug from the cold smoke adaptor

the brisquet burner will still work but you will get an E reading and a constant

beeping noise that lets you know oraly there is a problem.

As far as turning on the cabinet with that sensor not there, I've not done that

cause they told me not to.
