what smoker would you buy and why? (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze11gpul/Smilies/bigears.gif)
Buy? Don't you mean BUILD??? ;D ;D ;D
I'm with the Wildcat on this one. If cost were no object, it'd be a custom build all the way....giant outdoor kitchen!
My kind :o
(http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab242/nepas1/new/snowsmoke.jpg)
A brand new Vette with a trailer hitch and a Bubba keg on the hitch.
And I wouldn't go very many places haulin' the smoker around.
ffr... Seriously...
I'd like to have CRG's smoker (that he ain't even used yet --- maybe I can talk him out of it!)...
Backwoods FatBoy. Uh huh. Awrighten.
Heck it has free shipping :D

id build one with 3 compartments, 3 smoke generators, 6 heat elements, 6 pid to control each element and 3 blowers, and have 3 -300 lb compartments, and i figure 2 kw per compartment .. all out of stainless
Jennifer Aniston...or doesn't she smoke?
Yeah. I guess smokers are still a build it yourself kinda thing. After all, my only smoker right now is the Alton Brown flower pot smoker. While it works quite well, I am ready for an upgrade. :)
OK. So now cost is relevant. Let's say you have $750.00. What would you build?
Is there a good "base" out there were you can add a PID?
Old Hickory commercial.

Well I love the filing cabinet for a redneck smoker, but the two other ones look pretty expensive. I would basicly build what Sonny and others have built. Start with a stainless proofer and a bradley smoke generator and an auber PID. Add a fan and Roberts your fathers brother (bobs your uncle). There are some posts of builds done already and I am sure somebody will post a link to them soon. IMHO this is the way to go.

I'm not even going to ask how much that costs. (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze11gpul/Smilies/skepleavingl.gif)

Cool. I'll try and find it in the mean time. (http://mysite.verizon.net/vze11gpul/Smilies/thumbsup2.gif)
nice smokers
Here is a link to a nice plywood smoker.

for years my dad and I used and built plywood smokers. They work very well but are not as durable as a proofer is.

I would definately by another Bradley digital when my current one don't work no more. I would like a Mak though as well.
I would be more inclined to go one of these routes.

Yeah I can afford one of those...when pigs fly. ;D ;D Of course he did say if money were no object didn't he.
I'd love a bigger, better smoker, but then I'd have to build another garage to hold my other toys.to make room for the new smoker, and the new kitchen I'd want to build to go along with it, in the man-cave.
Mind you,I'd then want to monitor the whole thing with a CCT (closed circuit telly).

Don't forget the satelite temp tracker and the laser security system to keep taste testers out.
OK. Time for me to shift gears. I'll start a more appropriate thread. :)

Before I answer, I need a little more information. Smokers come in all types and varieties and not all are conducive to all uses!
1. How much meat at any one time are you going to cook?
2. Do you like fiddling with wood and fire?
3. Something for the back deck or competitions or to cater in?
4. Something that multitasks - grills, barbecues/smokes, or whole hogs.
5. Nothing is truly "set-n-forget" but some are closer! How much control do you want to give up!
6. What types of meat are you more likely to smoke.
Now, if you are asking me what I would want - well my druthers run a little large. I have a hankering for something like this, but I would probably only have one horizontal instead of two and have another rib box.
