Title: Roasted Chickpeas
Post by: squirtthecat on September 17, 2011, 07:50:13 AM
MrsSTC ran across a recipe for these (a lower octane equivalent to peanuts for snacking on).   Tried it last night in the oven and was pleasantly surprised.

Forgive the crappy cell phone shots.

- 2 cans of chickpeas, rinsed and drained well
- Couple spritzes of PAM to get them sticky
- A few light shakes of..
   garlic powder
   onion powder
   curry powder

Roll them around real good to get them coated.

I put some Frog Mats down on a rimmed cookie sheet.

Spread them out.

Into a 350° oven on the bottom rack.

Shake them around every 15 minutes or so until they are browned.

[EDIT]   Total time in the oven was about 40 minutes.   Then 10 minutes with the element off and the door cracked open.

Cool and put in an airtight container overnight.

Voila!

PDG.  Just like soft peanuts with a hint of curry.  (the curry powder I had was old and pretty bland to begin with)

We're going to try it again on the Smokers with some BLAZIN' treatment.   ;D

Sounds pretty good Pat!  Think I may have to give this a try on the MAK.

Sounds interesting! The Blazing treatment should be good. Hows about some CT on there as well?

Update...

If they are still soft/moist, keep them in the fridge.
Otherwise..   They don't keep.

Next batch I will dry them until they are crunchy.
