If its the Alton Brown rig, it's a hot plate.
I started to build one of those once. I could not find all the right size parts locally, I ended buying on OBS instead.

It's a hot plate with a pan on it to hold/heat the wood chips.
I couldn't find a clay pot for the top so I'm using my Weber kettle top. It has a little hard time keeping temp but I always finish it off in the oven.
I can't wait to upgrade my smoker but it works. :)

That there hunk of pork is gonna be gooood.
Ifn you put that pork on a rack above a pan with a couple beers in it you will have some really nice pork drippings to pour back into the pulled pork.
I like to de-fat the drippings.
Just dont let the pan go dry.
